No, I will have a battery. Of course the batteries will only charge when i am in motion.

Most will know what is driving this modification but, this is on my "hybrid" build and it is a "desert theme" so I wanted the larger lights, but also use my CR ignition. Did not want to modify and risk reliability or performance of the CR and since I have not found a better idea, thought I would give this a try. Confident it will work, looks kind a "FUNKY" but hey, It is a hybrid bike so we will see. Hahahahaha

It is a Kubota grass hopper alternator. Puts out about 20 amps max at 14 volts. (Ebay 59.00). Fabricated an adjustable mounting bracket. Bolts to the swing arm.It will put out an average of 160- 190 watts. Main lights are 100 w total HID will add some LED also. This lighting is mainly for show even though they will be functional. Not planning on spotlighting deer n running em down. HAHAHAHa

I was gonna mention trying LED's. Those will pull way more AMPs.

The bracket is stainless, I will make stainless spacers when I get the all the alignment true. I will fab a stainless guard with some sort of sealing device to protect the armature and stator from the elements. Just tinkering.

The HID ballast will charge when they come on and the battery should handle that in rush current load, then i believe the running amperage should be around 5 amps each if my research is correct. We will see, like I said,  Tinkering

Here is just a quick article on it.  Not being a jerk. Just trying to help ya out. I think this project is pretty bad ass.  I just picked up a small led fron and rear led red light an just going to run a LI-PO RC battery. It wont be for long rides. Just to get to the hill and back on my duner really.

I do not think you are being a jerk at all. I know that LED lighting consumes allot less power and is more efficient. The formulas for electricity calculation are uniform so doing the math is simple. I believe the start up in rush current is the deciding factor on how much total current supply I need. I will size my battery accordingly.
I will not be spotlighting anything so most likely the light will only be run when I am riding and most likely as not both will not be on at the same time, that is why one is a spot and one is a flood. Its how the desert riders set theirs up i believe, and that is the theme of my build.
