Need some info on how to set the spring load on the rear shock. My weight is 185lbs

The factory spring preload setting for the 88 shock is 8.66"-8.86".

I would set it for your ride height.  Depending on your riding. around 7.5-8" at the rear peg tube to the ground.  If your less than that, stiffen it, if your more than that soften it.

Look up "setting sag". It is rider weight dependent. Numbers given are a good starting point but generic. However it is all rider preference.

With you fully geared up you should use 1/3 of your travel on a oem setup ,a little over 3 inches of sag from full extension .If you have to preload the crap out of the spring ,you need a heavier spring. The correct spring will need only to be snugged down to hold you up to the correct height .
