Battle for Ohio 2017
« on: July 14, 2017, 10:55:38 AM »
Going to Chillitown MX this weekend in Chillicothe, OH to race after getting the motor back together. If anyone in that area wants to come see some great racing, quad only racing starts at 3:30PM Saturday and then the bikes on Sunday.

Thanks for the wishes F-Red. Moto 1 language warning lol. Got pretty frustrated but calmed down and started making some moves. Ended up 8th overall out of 18 in my class. Not excited about the result but had a good time with family and left with myself and the R in one piece. Moto 2 posted shortly.

Freakin hay bale! LOL. That's just rough luck right there Zak. You could have gone around it, but it's difficult to make good decisions when the adrenaline is pumping and everything is in panic mode. That dang bale sucked you right in and loved you til the end! LOL.

That track looked super deep tilled. That is what I'm used to racing on down here. Almost every track is tilled like that. Your looked a lot better on your 2nd start. If you are still having a problem with wheelie'ing on the start, I would try a couple things, but keep in mind, they all have their compromises.
You could:
Raise your tire pressure so you get less traction off the start. Allow a little bit more spin and less bite.
Raise you sprocket gear ratio a little. (this would be my last choice, since you ratio probably works well for the rest of the track)
Slightly increase the preload on your rear spring. (If you don't sag as much, there will be less weight transfer to the rear)
Slightly increase the rebound on the rear spring. (If it quickly rebounds to normal height, it will push your weight back up front and not on the rear wheels.

Maybe some of these suggestions will help you.

Ya I should have just gone around it for sure. Thanks for the tips Ryan. I really like how long I can pull the gears the way it is but it hurts my corner speed quite a bit. I'm sure you could see out of every corner I was slow as a turtle on the exit. I'm running 14/38 but thinking about going back to stock. I was playing with the gearing calculator and 14/40 looked good on the numbers but I've never ran it so I think I'll just go back to stock for now.

Absolutely do NOT do that! You should be running any lower a gear ratio than 14/38. Trust me, you will be shifting even more than you do now, and your wheelies will get worse on the starts. Consider this as well: Think back to when the pros and amateurs were almost exclusively running 250r's. They ran 14/38 up to 15/38 on stock bore motors! You have a 310.
Being slow at off the corners can be a result of two things: either you are normally slow out of the corners due to not carrying enough speed through the corner OR it is bogging you down due to the deep till. Either way, the corrective action is the same: carry more speed INTO the turn to help you get out of it sooner. While the solution is simple, actually doing it is much more difficult to accomplish. lol. It takes a lot of practice. The 4 stroke racers, especially the newbies, are extremely lazy. The go very slow in the corners, because they can use there torque to get back up and going quickly. You can beat the crap out of them by learning to carry speed through the corners. Look at the pros. Those guys carry more speed through corners that most even think possible.

My favorite gearing for mx has been 14/38 and 14/37 on most of my motors (310-363).
From what you're telling me I would suggest the following:
1. Increase the air pressure in your rear tires a little bit.
2. Slightly increase your rebound, little by little. See if it helps.

That's a good point. My entry speed probably isn't good either. I'm running 7psi in the rear tires now maybe I'll experiment with 8 and go from there. That's free at least haha.
