Ok, so my '86 R wasn't exactly done and I'm already starting over. Truth is, I really wanted an 88 / 89 to begin with because I always preferred the shorter aluminum swingarm design and we all know they are easier to find aftermarket parts for. A friend of mine picked up Zach's '89 rolling chassis this morning and will be delivering it to me Tuesday. As soon as it gets here I will begin taking my '86 apart and reassembling it on the '89 frame. I thought I was going to have to use the stock suspension, but AJ just located me a set of Ohlins front shocks and I seriously cannot thank him enough. I've been bugging him to death to sell me his and he got a killer deal on this set, so this '89 project is already off to a great start. I wasn't going to start a thread until I had pics to include, but I'm pretty excited right now and couldn't wait. I'll update it as things start happening.

I was hoping someone would pick that up.  Way too complete to just leave it sit around.  I recently picked up another project very similiar to that one.

Good deal Scott, and great start man. I thought you were gonna strip and gusset the frame and powder and then build it all up.

I'm over budget on everything right now. The gusset kit will happen. I'm just going to start fitting parts on this frame to see what I have and what I need. Once everything is there I will pull it back apart and put the gusset kit on, powder coat it, and put it all back together. I already know I want to cut my upper a-arms and install heims mounts on them to fix that problem I'm having with not enough camber adjustment, so there's plenty to be done. I just need to figure out what I'm keeping and what I'm getting rid of so I can start selling parts in order to afford to buy more like the gusset kit. I know I want that grab bar you have and most likely the steering stem, just not sure about the bumper. I'm really not caring for the style / design of that one.

Oh yes!!! The I can't wait to start a thread itch! Can't wait to see it! Are you coming to Jamie's when I come through?

If I can make it up, it will be just to hang out for the day. I won't be bringing a quad with me or anything. The '89 is supposed to be here Tuesday and I'm really thinking about putting it all in my garage so I don't have to keep travelling to my parents to work on it since it's going to be such a long project.

Budget, we all go over are budgets on a build. It will always happen but thats cool and I would just find another set of arms instead trying to get heims to work bud. It will honestly be cheeper to pick up another set of arms and sell yours bud.

I meant that I shouldn't have spent any of this money on more quad stuff. Two birthdays this month and Christmas coming? This was not the time for this deal to come up, but I couldn't let it pass. I'll decide what to do about the a-arms after I get the Ohlins shocks from AJ. I really don't like the idea of being forced to decide between long travel and standard travel shocks. Why is Alba the only company to come up with an a-arm design that gives you the choice? I'm extremely confident that I can modify these upper arms and install the heims joints and make them work to gain my camber adjustment back at the ball joint, but I've got plenty of other things to do before I get to that point anyway.

I got my 89 radiator and AC grab bar from Jamie (thanks man). While I was taking a break from straightening radiator fins, I scowered the internet and scored a complete 04/05 TRX450R front end setup. Spindles, hubs, rotors, calipers, and master cylinder. It's coming with OEM brake lines but I'll have to use my steel braided +2 lines which is fine.

Just gotta get it all cleaned up. I was just going to get the calipers, spindles, rotors, and hubs originally but I found this deal today and ended up with the master cylinder as well so I'll just use everything here. I'm going to get a black brake lever and go with the Pro-Taper clutch perch assembly on the other side of my Pro-Taper bars.
