Sprocket/rotor guards or skid plate.
« on: November 30, 2013, 07:25:50 PM »
Gotta do something for sprocket and brake protection on my cr500 link laeger.  Either sprocket/rotor guards or weld mounts for a skid plate on the swingarm.  I guess I am wondering how durable are the sprocket and rotor guards compared to a skid plate?  Gonna be in the woods and trails mainly

I like the sprocket guards from GThunder that I have. But i'm not impressed with the Blingstar rotor guard. One major hit to the rotor guard and it will snap the end of the bearing carrier off, since it's made to replace the brake stay as well.

I want to get this type of rotor guard instead, and have mounts welded on my Laeger swingarm

I would of never thought that the rotor guard would break!!  I guess it's getting skid mounts welded on...thanks for the info

The rotor guard itself won't break, but it will snap the end off the axle carrier if it's hit. That's how I got it in the first place, it snapped the end off my buddies 450 carrier so he gave it to me

i havent seen any for sale in a few years, but ive got 2 at my shop, that I need but I can get you a picture if you need

in my opinion these are about the most solid gaurds ive ever seen for not haveing a full plate

I would love to have a picture if you wouldn't mind.  One of my friends is awesome at fabricating things

PRM makes a complete skid plate with guards for both the sprocket and rotor if you want to go with a single piece setup.

actually now that I look at it there are 4 bolts holding it on
2 bolts on the Laeger pinch bolts one on the side  of the swing arm near the brake holder and one on the bottom of swing arm,
both my swing arms dont have the mounts for a standard protector but both can take this guard

Thank you for sharing the pictures I set my skid plate on the laeger swingarm and it does not clear the rear linkage so that will not work I will see if my friend can make me one of these

Dang i'm pretty sure my Laeger swingarm doesn't have those other 2 mounts. I'd have to check. More pics would be greatly appreciated

if it has mounts for a full it might not. both of mine have no full skid mounts but do have the mounts for these...
it has to have the duel pinch bolt pattern

Here's a picture of my Walsh disc guard.  It's made to bolt up to their swinger and probably won't work but I'm interested in what you decide since I have the same dilemma with my Laeger.  I'm thinking about trying this GThunder model since it's half the price.

Here's the Walsh that I recently bought....built like a tank.

Since my 330 is finally done, I pulled the motor out and took the quad over to my friends place.  He is going to see what he can do but I think the plan is to shorten a aftermarket skid plate and weld mounts onto the bottom of the swing arm.  Says he will have something by the weekend for me.   Showed him these pics and he might try to make some of these if he can't fabricate the skid plate on.
