Hoping in 2 weeks parts will be back from powder. Still need to decide on grab bar, bumper and what intake setup I want to run. Need to order bushing kit for my arms, new Hiper rings and get my head done, after that I should have everything........... ...............But theres always something else!

Thought you were going with a CF intake from Troy.

As soon as Troy says its a go, I will be all over it, for the mean time I will probly just use oem 06^ boot and box. Im running a crf450 fcr carb instead of the 04-05 carb. I know they have billet adapter to use 04/5 but I will pass on that. Im also going to use the Dasa ring to use a bigger filter

Got the Rekluse clutch today, also got the head and cyl off. New Honda crank which I knew, but really didnt expect to see these battle wounds on the piston. I have a Baldwin JE 14.1 piston anyways, but I was hoping to reuse the cyl. Not the case now, and Im going to split the cases and double check everything after finding this.

Ugh! That sucks!
If you don't like the rekluse. ... I'd like to give it a try :) I had the chance to ride a guys quad last year with one and it was kind of weird lol but I can see where it would help in the trails!!

Definately weird at first! Im bad about using my rear brakes and sliding around trees at higher speed trails, which leads to me killing it often, this will fix that..lol.  However, if I cant get used to it, I will send it your way!

My 05' would haul through the woods, these are good bikes. I had Axis long travel on the front and a revalve with a GT XC link on it and I swear you could have run across the lunar surface in 5th gear pinned. The rear on the early ones have a tendency to buck a little bit on kickers but they will eat almost anything you can find. My engine was a little more mild but I never thought I needed more, I ran the 06 up HRC cam a full exhaust and opened up the air and fuel system, did those mods it showed on the 450 site on the crank case vents and the intake. I ran the thing like a smoker because these are a pretty high strung engine and it accelerated like crazy, I just hated when it flamed out on me until I got used to it. As for the rekluse I wish I had two more hands so I could give it four thumbs down, can't stand those things. If I was going to have another I would buy a slipper clutch to get rid of some of the engine braking. If I wouldn't have bought a pile of high compression/ported/02 CRF cammed nothing and rebuilt my old engine I would probably still own it.

Ive had a few Mx and TT 450r's but this is the 1st Xc one Ive done. Ive always used 13.1 CP pistons and Crf or 04/05 Hrc cams, along with Sparks or Dasa exhaust. Vent mods and Uni filters, always a good solid reliable combo. This one Im using the 06' Hrc for the bottom end grunt. Along with a 14.1 JE, mild port and Baldwin exhaust,Fcr carb,it should be a stump puller. Im sure it will fall off a little early, but Ive found it better to almost short shift the 04/05's a little early anyways.
This is my first set of nicer Elkas, so Im crossing my fingers on them. Not a huge Elka fan but these should handle the job. I am curious on the stg5's though. Houser swinger and Houser Xc link will soak it up nicely.

06+ HRC was a really mellow cam in my 05', it made the power band very broad was what I liked about it best. I thought the 02' cam was garbage or the whole engine was or something, thing was very peaky, backyard ported 250R peaky. I really didn't have to play with the shifter much, just lots of clutch so I guess you could say it had good low end but once that thing started chugging out there was no saving it. I actually run a 250r engine down lower than I did that one just because of it stalling, I know they say "do not hold the throttle open" but when that thing stalled WOT and the hot start was the only way it was going to fire. Did you do lower the sub frame on it? I always wanted to on mine but never did because the tubes on the early ones have to have some work done, I always felt it was top heavy and needed it done.

The Crf cam is definitely "peaky", and your right, lots of clutch. With that and 04/05 Hrc cams I like to leave my idle a little higher than most people. Tends to reduce stalling a little bit, and help with restarts. The "starting procedure" with 04/05 carbs I found that worked best was 2 full pumps of the throttle, kick,2 pumps kick. Hot starting is always a gamble, but the hot start lever is a must! I know the Fcr's make more power but I tend to prefer the 04/5 carbs for the smoother roll on. I have this Fcr left over from the hybrid so its getting used, Im counting on the cam and high compression to get that instant throttle response. If you couple the Crf or Fcr cam with a Crf Fcr, it tends to have alot of 2 stroke feel. Guess we will see how it does, I have plenty of back up parts for different combo's.
I didnt lower the sub, and havent tried one yet, really want to though. I know on the 04/5 subs there are slugs at the bottom mounts that have to be removed then reinstalled after cutting or fab up new ones. Not sure how the 06^ are, Ive only had one 06^, an 07 with full TT motor. I prefer the earlier motors better, but everyone else I know likes the later ones
