My first 250R
« on: February 18, 2014, 11:35:44 AM »
I finally broke down and bought a 250R after selling my quad.  I've always wanted one so I figured what the heck.  I took a road trip this past weekend with the wife (4 hours each way) to pick up my new toy.  I ended up with an 86 250R.  Pretty good condition but as most it needs a little TLC.  It was sitting for awhile and the owner never rode it.  He took it in on trade and just parked it.

I am not sure if anyone has the answer to this or not, the jug is engraved with GNCC and the initials C.F or C.E. (it is hard to read). Anyone have any ideas what that may mean?  I'm assuming it has been ported or something (but could be wrong).

Thanks for the site and I will be lurking around soaking up all the good info I can find.

Thanks

Welcome to the best 250R site! Where ya from in pa? Looks like a nice clean ride,With the GNCC on the side of the jug I would take a guess and say its ported for woods riding opposed to MX or Dunes for example.

I am south east of Pittsburgh.  Thanks for the information on the etching (I was thinking that may be the case).

Yes it is great...It's unfortunate that this "sickness" drains our wallets though.

Oh well...time to look through the for sale section and figure out what I need (very short list) versus what I want (the list that never ends).

Welcome aboard, nice bike.... GNCC stands for Grand National Cross Country. Have you had a chance to fire up the new toy & take her for a spin yet?

I've only ridden it once.  I need a shock bushing and to rebuild the rear linkage.  I believe the parts will be in today but I doubt I will have time to work on it.  It does run pretty good so I cant wait to get some seat time. I'm familiar with GNCC racing just wasn't sure why it was etched into the jug short of maybe being ported or something.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the help everyone.

Welcome to the site.  As mentioned above, the best site.  We are all happy to have you and we look forward to your build progress and any information or knowledge shared.

It looks like you've got a pretty good bike.  One thing you said was you finally broke down.  I hope you meant you finally broke your wife down and she let you get the bike!  Just messing with ya.  These are addictive quads and for only owning my first for a little over a year I'm at the point where I don't see how it's possible to only own one!

I don't have to worry about the wife to much as long as her machine runs when she is ready to ride.  I have 6 quads total (3 kids machines and 3 "adult" rides).

To be honest I am already spending money left and right on this thing.  I just picked up a 310 cylinder and head and I am working on some new shocks.  My wallet is getting emptier and emptier by the minute lol.
