Balljoint stud turning

I am installing new balljoints but the stud is turning on me . How do you keep the stud from turning without a impact wrench?

I've had good luck by spinning the nuts on several times without the spindles to remove any burrs from the threads.  After that, the tension of the spindle taper will usually hold them to tighten everything up.

When removing them, I've used tapered Vice Grips to hold the stud between the boot and spindle.

I've put C clamps on them to hold the taper in place as i tighten too. I also like the idea of running the nut on to remove burrs and crap. Or use a die if you have one present.
