Insalling Rear motor mounts on an 86
« on: March 12, 2014, 10:31:38 AM »
Has anybody welded on the rear motor mounts on an 86? The lower one is no issue at all, however, the top rear motor mount needs that brace across, just curious is anyone did something else to make this work and still fit the airbox/shock correctly. It'd be great to have a bunch of room for the carb there. Pics work best if you've got them!

Thanks guys!
Colin

If im not mistaken, the Laegers do not have an upper rear motor mount, only the lower, correct? That may be an option.

Not understanding the question. How do you weld #6? as it floats.

you mean the mounts from an 88-89 to an 86 frame? If so I have one in my garage right now. I think the top mount was custom made as it looks factory but the rear shock comes very close to touching it.

What im asking is if anyone has welded new custom mounts on to it. So i can run an 88-89 swinger, and have the stability i am looking for.
JoePA, you hit it on the nose, can you send me pics of it and measurements?

Im debating even running the top mount, but i feel like its a good idea.

When i get home I'll get some for you. If I remember correctly he is just running the top? As mentioned I think the aftermarket just have the bottom one.

I see the curved tube on the 88-89 to be over $100. You could probably weld some elbows together and get something much cheaper. The radius's are to tight for the average bender to accomplish.

The bottom mounts can be welded right onto the base of the frame where the linkage mount is(i just did that on one of my 89 frames). The upper mount would be attached to the "crossmember"

Correct, the Laegers do not run the upper motor mount, Roll however does, LSR and Arens i see both ways, no upper mount, and with upper mount.

I'd love to run all 5 mounts, due to just breaking the upper rear on my 89(hence welding in the lower on my wifes 89), but if i can only swing the 2 lowers, the front, and headstay, i will do that.

Right, thats exactly what i'd do, i just need to make sure i leave enogh clearance everywhere for airboot, shock, pipe, etc.
