I have an '85 ATC and currently do not have paddles for it nor have I ever owned them so I am not sure what to get. I haven't ridden my ATC in the sand since the late 80's but I do remember running a set of 350x stock rears that ran much better then stock. I have never run anything but stock on the front so I really have no experience at all with paddles.

I want to be able to fly around Glamis and Pismo but also to some fun drags up competition hill as well

I have an extra stock front wheel 23.5 x 8 x 11 and 2 extra sets of stock OEM TRX rears 20 x 11 x 9 wheels that I can install new tires on or buy complete wheels if these rims are not the best size to run paddles on.

I am running the stock swingarm and as for HP I am not sure but this is not a BB rocket. 1 step up from stock? Maybe 40 HP??? Here are the engine specs

I'd say a 21" 7/8 paddle hauler or extreame. But I've never run Cali sand before My stock cyl I'm running 21" 7 extreames and I can't hold it down

For the front, there aren't many choices... We run a stock size Skat Trak Mohawk on a factory wheel (minus the gold), purchased from Recreation Tire. On the back, I'm not sure about Pismo or Glamis sand, but for where I'm at, it's hard to go wrong with a 20" Skat Trak Hauler, with eight paddles. I personally like the 21x12-8's better with 8-9 paddles better, but they make our trike feel kinda tippy.

mrmoto, I had a set of those paddles.. they came with my R when I bought it.. they worked really well.. the only problem I had was that they leaked air in the center of the tire where the tread is... but that's only because the tires were really old and worn out... not sure how long the previous owner had them.. but I guess the sand finally took a toll on them.. good luck man hope this helped... -simon

I actually have a set of those, that I bought for cheap.... I think I offered him $140 and he took it. Cost vs. performance, I've been pretty happy with them, and keep them for loaners and on my cruiser when it's not wearing Sand Skate II's.

The quality seems hit or miss (what I've read on other forums), but mine have been plenty good for the cost. They don't get the traction of the original Skat Trak Haulers, but if you haven't been to the dunes alot, and don't really plan on going back too often, they will work fine. They are a little too much paddle for my stock TRX250R with a FMF pipe, but might be just about right for an ATC's lighter weight.

I'd look around for some used Haulers... Lots of people are coming off their dune season as the temps get warmer. Usually some good deals floating around on Craigslist and forums.

For your set-up, yes they will be fine. That shop is located out here in Sacramento. The shop had a large run of tires made, they are scuffed carcasses with paddles molded on. Just like Skats. For you setup power wise I would run a 20" 7-8 paddle.
I actually have a 20X10X10 8pdl hauler I switch to every once in awhile on my bike, just depends on what I feel like. This is with 70hp.

So I could get a set of these for around $145.00 out of pocket and mount them to a set of my OEM rims but is 20x11-9 (8 paddle) going to be too much for my motor? that's the only tire that will fit the rims I have

I bought 2 sets of the skat trak knock offs. One set was fine but the paddles wore down quick and cracked when I ran my usual sand/trails. This also includes asphalt parking lots at the dunes. The other set cam with a hole in the side wall. I was able to plug it but still for a brand new set? My second set it seems the paddles are holding up a little better. As far as sizing they are narrower than the skat track and slightly taller. Just a heads up I would probably buy another set if I needed it.

Are TRX250r/400ex OEM rims really heavy? The set I moved around today seem heavy to me. Could just be the tires though.

I have $100.00 in rewards and a 10% code to use at RMATV. Should I buy the Skat Trak Haulers 20x11-9 (8 Paddle) tire and mount them on OEM 20x11-9 rims?

Or should I get all new wheels that are 20X10-10 (7-8 Paddle)?

I tried a friends set of haulers on my 85 ATC once.... fine if you just wanna go staight.... My 86 ATC came with a set of sand skates, I liked those alot better. JMO Jim

for all around riding 20/10/10 is my favorite. I will run straight paddles over V paddles every day of the week. JMO

Just found out I can get a set of haulers free. I believe they are 20x12-8 (7 Paddle) The rims look cheap or maybe Dougles/ITP and look old but I am told the tires have no plugs and they hold air.

I definitely want to do more then just go straight so probably I will start with the free Haulers and buy a set of the Edge type tires and have both.

Anything free is the way to go... Seven paddles will do well, and let the engine rev a little easier than eights (higher top speed also). I have at least 8 pairs of sand tires I swap around and try on different machines, and let friends do the same. Each engine combo has a size and number of paddles it likes the best, for the conditions. Every now and then, I still throw on some old 20x10x10 Sand Skate II's and go on 60 hp "drifts" through the dunes. lol.
