450r Swinger with a 250r carrier and 250r axle. Will that line up? I want to dump the plus 6 swinger on my 310 bike and run a 450r swinger instead. Will the chain line up etc? I have a 450r complete rear end on my 86 based 250r frame and there’s no issues it rides perfect height I just didn’t know about using the 450 swinger and 450 linkages but using the stock 250r based carrier and axle with brake stay and brake caliper.  Trying to avoid buying another complete rear end if I can use  all of whats on the bike already aside from the swinger and some of the swinger bearings.

only info i have found on this is that the carrier for a 250r will stick out a little bit wider than the 450r swinger carrier housing. something about having to shim the brake rotor as well. I will pick on up and get balls deep into the install and see how it looks along the way. And post my findings for future swappers.

Jason, this mod has been tried several time before with varying success rates. Physically everything will bolt up and work with minor modifications(spacers, washers, etc). Some have used a combination of 450r and 250r linkage, some have used strictly 450r linkage. The real issue lies in the fact that no one has really taken into account the progression ratio of the linkage into account to see how well it works and how the shock needs to be valved to compensate for this. This is where the research has stopped. There are several guys that have done the mod and trail ride with their quads and it seems to work. However, this mod has never been proven in any harsher conditions such as mx racing or duning or large jumping. Best of luck to you! I hope you get it to work out!

thanks man. i already have the 450r rear (2006) on my 500 bike and it has an adjustable linkage which gave me proper ride height. There are actually a handful of guys that are MX'ing 450r swingers including Jason Hall and some of the other big name 3 wheeler guys. Jason has recommended a long travel rear shock to really take advantage of the swinger but suggests the GT Thunder link for either 05 or 06 and up. They have had great success with those. I just wanted to get a clear answer about the 250r carrier and components in the 450 swinger, trying to avoid buying more than i need to lol

I have that link saved in my favorites lol. I have actually met Aussie duner in person he fly up from Aussie land and rode with us at one of our rides in Michigan with Roger Steffans. Aussie duner's thread was helpful; i know i have to cut a slice out of the bottom linkage mount and know about using the 450r linkages, but i dont believe there is any mention in that thread about using 250r components in the 450r swinger.... maybe i go check now lol thabnks for posting that up

I never used the 250r carrier I always used the 450r carrier and axle. I used the GT Thunder link setup that Jason Hall recommends  on the standard 06 length swing arm and the +4. Biggest  issue I have always had is getting the right shock combination.

man your machines are so clean! I ran the stock 250R shock on my 500R build and the height with the  07 swinger and adjustable linkage makes it perfect. Hall approved it at little sahara 2 weeks ago lol. I was going to duplicate the set up on the 500R for linkage and shock, and run the 250r carrier and brakes/axle etc. We will see shortly here i guess
