My Wife is complaining about bump steer..
« on: May 05, 2014, 03:13:31 PM »
So she has a stock front end, 86 arms, 86 shocks, stock stem, 3:2 offset reinforced ringed rims. I told her when i was building it this winter, i wanted to put some +2 arms on it, but she wanted a narrow R to whip around with....whatever that means lol.

Pretty much all we ride is dunes. But the trucks really rut it up and she has a hard time shifting through the rough sand.
So my question is this, will a steering stabilizer help reduce this? What about less air in the front tires? Any recommendation is appreciated!

Thanks guys and God Bless
Colin

I agree with samel, ccp kit from motofool is what she wants. It will help that tracking.

Pismo also gets really choppy, I have tried different PSI in the front. Now I run them fairly soft. I also just got in on the group buy for the Stabilizer.  Also Sending out the front Works to Schmidty to get set-up for my weight and style.

You still have the stock shocks on it?

Yeah i do....it was a severe budget build. Down the road it will get some aftermarket fronts on it and hopefully i can convince her on some +1 or 2's. I will try softer front tires.... theyre 22x8x10, fricken massive. But a deal i couldnt pass up.

any used non worn out stick style setup would help her as well.

years back I bought a used ltr450 for my wife,we had it for a few dune trips and while on a ride, her and I some how get on each others bike.I stopped her to get my bike and she refused to switch ,teling me that her bike handled like crap in comparison to mine. All it took was to put the oem rims on tires back on to make make her happy again.the bike had 3x2 on the front .I did not argue with her at all ,because I had to ride her bike and knew exactly what she was talking about

I could be way off base here (sounds like she knows what she likes) but that is a pretty straight bend of handlebar and kind of short on a stock height stem. When I had a stock stem I liked an atv bend bar. A little taller with more pull back kept me back a little further for a more relaxed steering position. 2 cents
