Exhaust touching a radiator hose
« on: August 06, 2014, 08:44:22 PM »
I just installed my CT midrange pipe and it is touching a radiator hose.  I am assuming over time the pipe will melt the hose.  Is there anything I can put over the hose to protect it?

You can cut another piece of rad house down the middle and zip ty it over the rad house to act as a heat shield. Better thing to do is to keep working with the pipe mounts with different spacers to get it spaced off the hose.

if your pipe gets that hot to melt your hose you have bigger problems

are you talking about the rear line that goes from the water pump to the rear of the head? if so use Carquest heater hose #19761, triim it right and it routes ur hose down and around the tight spot between the cylinder and exhaust.

I'm not sure if it would get that hot, I am just being cautious since it is touching.

Yes, that's the one.  I will check out the carquest heater hose.

Do you have any pictures of how it was cut?

Or just get stainless braided lines from summit racing for $50 shipped. 6ft of it is plenty, I believe 3/4 id.... I could be wrong on that.
I ride PINNED! Therefore, no bdt in this household.

that carquest hose is like $20-$30 at the parts store. i dont have pictures of how its cut, but once you put it up there and lay it in there, you can see where it needs cut and how it routes lower, and back around the cylinder, then up to the head.
this is what arlan told me to do since my led 350g is touching the same way. i have slacked off and not done it yet, but i will go to carquest this afternoon and see if they have it and if not ill order it, and ill make a write up about it with pics while i do it. i have 100% faith in the fact it will work, just by looking at the shape you can tell it will route nicely.
