Any hope for stock suspension?
« on: October 01, 2014, 11:21:41 PM »
I recently jumped into the 250r world with an 86. I came from a motocross background so my motor tune is kinda pipey with decent top end. I have recently been riding aggressively in a cross country setting. THIS ATV HAS BEAT ME TO DEATH! I am trying to keep the build cost low due to a baby due in February.
If I revalve and respring the front shocks is it worth it or is money best spent on new ones? How about the rear is it worth an overhaul?

Unfortunately the stock front shocks are not rebuildable.  I would highly recommend GT Suspension or Custom Axis for the fronts.  The rear will work but not nearly as good as an aftermarket and usually on that old of a bike the rear shocks are shot.

I am sure every thing is shot. I'm looking for a used set of fronts for around 100 to 200. Any recommendations for places to look?

So I looked on eBay and found a trx450r front shock set in the 200 range. If any body has any dimensions or a tale of how they did it I would love to hear it

I seem to remember a couple numbers like full extension stock 250r 16.5 or so and stock 450r at like 18.5

I'd recommend new because the stock 450R will not be correct, they aren't even correct for the 450R!

Noted. The 450r dose have a resivoir and is rebuild able. So in theory if the length is right it could be tuned. Total price of used shocks revalve and restoring would probably be around 500 and you could get a set of elka stage 1 for that

Race Tech Gold valve in the rear makes a nice difference and saves some money in the process.
