Author Topic: Fuel not entering carb (Read 5256 times)

What's up guys? So I decided to possibly sell my R. I figured I'd head out to make sure everything's tight and take it for a spin first (it's been a couple months since I started it). I kicked and kicked and nothing... Checked spark and all is good, chokes up, tether is connected, fuel is on...

What I discovered was with the petcock on, the fuel doesn't trickle down. My first assumption was a clog in the tank or valve itself. I disconnected the hose from the carb and checked for flow once again - It flowed perfectly!! So the issues in the carb?

Any ideas on what to aim for when opening up the carb? Has this happen to anyone else? Thanks in advance.

What oil do you run, and how cold is the temperature where the bike sits. I have had oil in my gas come out of suspension and plug the reserve line.

Mandom - I'll def. check the floats, I tried the tapping on the bowl with a wrench, but they may need a deep clean.

Burns - Caster 927 pre-mix and the outside temp here has been 60's - 70's so I can assume roughly 50's - 60's in the garage. One of my overflow lines off the carb did have some build up at the end. I squeezed the line and it weeped out a bit so I figured it was clear. I'll be sure to clean it correctly if not snip the end off.

Needle and seat I'd say for sure (which would cause the floats to stick) probably gummed up with oil.

If in a hurry, take a rubber tip air gun and use compressed air to unstick the float by blowing in the inlet where the hose connects to the carb, but it may be best to remove the carb and clean

You need to look and listen closely to your machine. Obviously your machine is tell you it does not want to go.

Was my thoughts exactly at the time, that it's an omen. However after completing the build about a year ago I've only gone riding once (besides some rips around the Neighborhood). I'd love to keep it regardless, because I KNOW I'll end up building another, but I've been dieing to build either a xs650 Bobber or cb550 Tracker / cafe and could use the space/funds.

Either way, Carb is coming off for a cleaning sometime this week so I'll be spending some time with it. I'll consider it a sort of marriage concealing to see where we stand.

I know what a bobber is but tracker sounds more like an ATV lol

I'm not sure where the problem was, but I'm guessing it was a stuck float as mentioned above. I'm thinking when I took the bowl off it came un-stuck in the process. I did a good cleaning regardless, re-assembled, fuel flowed, and all is good!! Fired right up!

Not sure if I would sell after a nice breezy ride around the Neighborhood, but it's still on the table. I just have NO IDEA what to ask?? 4k, 5k?
