Silicon o-rings will take more temperature than any other type 0-ring but  they are short lived on the engines that spend the majority of their time at full throttle.

The exhaust temperature when the engine is on the pipe will usually be in the 1050 deg. F to 1200 deg. F range.  The pipe flanges will reach temperatures in the 600 to 1000 deg range depending upon how long the throttle is open.  Silicone will tolerate temps around 500 deg F.

Two strokes burn most of the oil that is in the fuel at high RPM and wide open throttle.  Most of the mess is created when the engine is operated at partial throttle and off the pipe.  When dyno testing we seldom have any oily mess except when warming up the engine.

Thank-you. What o-ring & spring kit is the best for the ESR TRX5 pipe?

Point of order, sir. Kalrez O-rings can tolerate temperatures in excess of 620 degrees.

What you meant to say is that silicon will take more temperature than any other reasonable O-ring, as Kalrez O-rings are roughly $100 each in that size...:stirthepot:

I am sure that the guys on the site will be ordering lots of them at that price.  How do they hold up due to abrasion.

I think that Honda had the best idea on the original steel flanges that used the steel  ring type of seal.  The steel ring did not provide a 100% seal like a new o-ring but probably seals as good as most of the aluminum flanges with o-rings that has some time on them.

fast cure 5200 is about the strongest silicone you can buy imo.  it does not come off easily with a torch. it is used  in marine application.it is nasty ,what it touches it sticks to what it sticks to it stays on. home depot sells it or any local marine place like west marine. 24hrs to cure to 48 ,to fully dry . you can use gas or brake clean on a rag to wipe it off while fresh.
