44mm lectron on a 363 sphynx?

I'm thinking of doing this set up, how hard is tuning with alky?  Im at 7000 feet so cloud be a pain.

Lectron is the easiest carb to tune on the market.  I could tell you within a turn or two on the pj at 1500' and below, however I know at 7000' it will need LESS fuel so that's not helpful.  I wouldn't hesitate to go to a lectron.  They can be had for 250-350 with billet bowls all day long used.  The bowl will need the right side front section modified to fit well on a honda, case clearance.  Or go with CP bowl for a Honda, they are already built with the clearance.

Theirs a Packard racing 44 on eBay right now. Bowl looks billet  but I doubt it notched for the r cases.

Pay close attention to the slide, that is where they wear as it is all aluminum.  Should have to the two relief holes drilled into the slide near the top too, reduces the pressure on the slide so it will close.  I suggest two pj's as you will start out fat and need the extra fuel.  With all that said, Packard setup would be close to plug and play.

It has been a long time since I have done any flow testing on the Lectrons.  Lectron measures their carbs differently than Mikuni or Keihin.  Keihin and Mikuni rate their carbs based upon what the minimum diameter of the airflow passageway is through the carb.  

Example:

Keihin 38mm PWK has an airflow passageway that has a minimum internal diameter of 38.0mm.  The end of the airflow passageway where the carb plugs into the rubber reed manifold is about 39 to 39.5mm.  A TM 38 Mikuni has similar internal airflow passageway diameters as the 38 PWK.

Some 48mm Lectrons airflow passageways have a minimum diameter of 46mm while other 48mm Lectrons minimum airflow passage way is 43 to 44 mm.  I am not sure what the minimum diameter is on the 44 Lectrons but I suspect that it is probably 2mm to 3mm smaller than 44mm.  

So what I am trying to say?  If you are wanting more airflow than what a 41.5 or 42.0mm Keihin or Mikuni has, you may need a Lectron that is larger than a "44 Lectron".

I've ran a 40.5 Keihin, and a 44 Lectron.  The 44 made more power. As Jerry stated, going bigger then 44 may be beneficial.

Short answer, Yes.  I know there are people running 48's on ESR 370's with good results, however user preference.  Personally had great results with the 44 on my setup.

I was talking to Pete about doing a solid 370 dune motor for me and we got on the topic of carbs, I told him I had a 39 PWK "Is there anything else you'd prefer or recommend " Throw a 48 Lectron on it!" was the first thing that came out of his mouth, I chuckled and said, "I wanna dune this thing, not just drag race!" he starts laughing and tells me, "Well, I guess that PWK will be fine then" jokingly.


But honestly, I wouldn't doubt you could run a 40 or 44 Lectron and be SET. Give Pete a call. You know he's gonna get ya situated!
