Just for a little background, I grew up riding my dad's blaster since I was about 10 and since have fallen in love with 2 strokes. I now own an 04 Blaster with a 240 BB and +3 crank. It's pretty mean but I've always wanted a 250R. Found one not too far away for a decent price and decided to finally start my dream build. Since I do have a fully functional and fun to ride blaster, this will be a slow build that I do in my spare time. I picked up this 86 TRX250R. It was clear that this guy didn't know much about the quad or much about quads in general. He told me that the guy he bought it from had a huge list of thing he did to it and he couldn't remember it all but this R to me doesn't look far from stock other than the powder coating and the shitty plastics. Here is how I got it:

Here it is sitting next to my blaster

As you can see it has some strange color scheme going. Luckily I have powder coating at my work so I will powder the blue stuff red again. I don't like the red engine either. Planning on making it black not sure how I'm going to do that though. The obvious things that are wrong with it are the color, had a nice crack in the bill's pipe it has, no swingarm nut, had a twist throttle (not a fan), the plastics are pretty bad shape (stains and cracks all over), no kill switch, parking brake was removed but no parking brake block off, and filter looked nasty. I started to fix these problems by giving it a nut on the swingarm bolt, had welders at work weld the pipe crack, got the thumb throttle back on with a new cable as well, ordered a factory looking kill/light switch, got a parking brake block off, and new uni filter.
When installing the cable for the thumb throttle, I took the carb off. While inspecting it, I found that the bowl was cracked right by one of the bolts that holds it on. Took the bowl off to find the piece had fallen off and was most likely caused because it had two gaskets stacked on top of each other. I dug a little deeper to find it had a 152 main and 48 pilot. That main was probably too lean for the pipe and filter (if the filter is clean). Also found that the clip on the needle had be bent really bad and was between about 3 different positions. I debated a new carb since I know I want to make this thing a monster in the future but decided to keep it the way it is (only fixing its flaws) for now until I get use to it.
So at the moment, I'm waiting on a new bowl, some jets, and a rebuild kit to come in so I can fix the carb and get this thing going. I also have some wheel bearings that I need to install (pretty sure that is what is causing the play in the front wheels). I'll also soon think about what I want to do to it cosmetically. Thinking about doing a complete frame tear down and having the welders at work help me gusset the frame and then I can powder it red.
