1985 atc250r shock linkage bushing and seals rebuild kit
« on: September 14, 2016, 11:05:59 PM »
Can anyone show me where I can buy a linkage rebuild kit for a 1985 atc250r?  I can find a rebuild kit for 1986 and newer bikes but not for the 1985.

Aren't the only differences between the 85 & 86 in the axle, carrier & brake caliper mount? The linkages should all use the same bushings & seals. I recently rebuilt the linkage on an 86 trx & kept all the old bushings & seals. I can take measurements or send you the used bushings & seals so you can compare them to yours.

The bolt that goes through the bottom of the linkage and shock is bigger on the 85.

The sprocket hub is different and carrier is smaller OD on the 85. The brake stay and caliper mount is also different.

The carrier rebuild kit is the same as the 86 and up and the caliper is the same on all years.

Thanks for the offer, if no one knows where to get a kit I might have to measure them all out.

Is the lower linkage bolt diameter bigger or is it longer?

you might have to go with the 86-89 kit and use the lower bolt from 86 on

good luck to you!

Are the bushings in the links at the shock connection also larger ID because of the larger dia bolt?

Yes, everything is bigger. You can get the wishbone and dog bone from an 86 or 87 and use it.

Since the bushing bore ID's in the links are larger on the 85 for the larger dia bolt than it stands to reason that the bolt hole in the shock would be larger as well so an 86 shock would be needed if changing to the 86 links. Or just make bushings for the 85 shock.

The ATC shock linkage bolts (85 and 86) are 1mm smaller than the TRX bolts, hence the TRX linkage bushing kit wont work on an ATC. What I did on my 85 was use the 86 TRX linkage and bolt and enlarge the lower shock clevis hole to fit the larger bolt.
