Hello everyone. Im from the woodland lake odessa area. I ride a 86trx250r, stock head and jug, bills pipe, boyseen super stock reeds, changed main to 158 and pilot at 52. When i pin the throttle and pop the clutch you would think the quad would throw me off it, but it almost dies and then takes right off with out a problem. Any ideas. Checked spark plug and burnt to perfection. Air filter was freashly cleaned and im not running any snorkly or box lid. Checked all intake side for leaks with wd 40 and all good. I do have a couple exhaust leaks and the header pipe both sides.

That seems pretty rich for a stock carb.  Might be compensating for the exhaust leaks leaning out the mixture but causing a fat pilot circuit.  What is the elevation?

What carb? Regardless piliot that big on a stock motor will be loading up like crazy. Thats where your are getting the dying feeling at first, then it takes off.  Fix the exhaust leak, and throw in a 42 piliot, and you should be good to go. In illinois, my cousins quad is running a 40 piliot, ansd a 142 main @ 70degrees, and his plug and piston wash is spot on. Elevation should be about the same, give or take 100ft. He is running what sounds to be close to the same set up.

Welcome!  I agree with some of the other comments. I think that is too big of a pilot for sure, especially if you have a stock carb. Please let us know what size and brand of carb you have when you get a chance. And like other have said, the leaks are helping you either, especially when it comes to screwing with jetting and lean/rich conditions.
