Led tranny gears
« on: July 03, 2017, 12:57:37 PM »
Question for any one that has bought an LED trans set.  Thank god someone wants to make gears to keep these things going.  I have a 310 kit from Arlan and finally after 2 years got it going.  Runnning all Eddie sanders product cases cylinder Arlen ported etc.  my question, has anyone experienced gear noise on decel while in 4-6th gears?  Finally got it out to break in and that's what I noticed.  I have the complete led gear set and billet shift forks.  Trans shifts through the gears fine.  I figure if I put the trans together wrong it would not shift or would bind and not spin at all.

This is no bash it's a beautiful set of gears just wondering if this has been an experience people have had.  I haven't talked to Arlen yet.  I don't have a lot of experience with the esr cases either maybe it's how the trans is pushed together once the cases are together the tolerances are a bit different than the stock cases

I would give Arlan a call. I haven't personally heard of this issue

I have not heard of this issue either.  like Tbone07 stated...call Arlan or Kody at Schorr Motorsports.

What oil are you using in trans?

Redline motorcycle gear oil.  It's good quality stuff it's been in stock trans, no gear noise.  I talked to Arlan, he hasn't noticed it on the dyno but with ear plugs/muffs on and all kinds of tire noise etc, it would probably be hard to detect any gear noise.

I am going to run and see what happens,  and like I said in the beginning, this is not a bash post I'm glad someone is willing to make parts for a 30+ year old machine to keep them running.  Without them, we wouldn't be riding them any longer.  I'm sure with the thick heavy shift forks, along with the completely new gear set, there's going to be a break in period.

Sort of but not really on where you are going with your question.  New ESR cases, new bears, new gears, new shift forks, but old shift drum.  I talked to Kody Schorr today, he hasn't heard of this either but was a real great guy to talk with and a stand up guy.  After discussing this with him, I think what's happening is these billet shift forks don't mess well with this 88-89 shift drum and on decel there's a bit more back loading on the shift forks and will probably quiet down once these shift forks get some time on them.

I noticed when I put this motor together that the first to second shift is real notchy.  I have noticed on the 88-89 motors in general they shift a bit harder than the 86-87 motors.  There is something different in the 88-89 shift drum although it looks to be the same part as the earlier shift drums.  With these new billet shift forks I have, they seem to make the problem a bit more pronounced at least it seems like it to me.

will see how it goes.  I might at some point split the cases and put the old shift forks in and see what that does.

I use nothing but Redline products.  What one are you using in trans?
