Scramblecross - Oak Hill, Decatur, TX

Sucked. That's all I can say. First time back to a Scramblecross race in 2 years since they axed quads their first year. Left a bad taste in my mouth but my friends run it so I finally took them up on the offer to come back out for a race. Weather was great. Suppose to be high 90's but felt like low 80's due to storms north of us. Got practice in, which was fun. Quad still isn't tuned right but working it out. Then 1st motos come. Got all the way to ours and the rain let loose right before my moto. So of course they don't cancel it or hold off. So we run in rain. And it was awful. I made just a little over a lap before the motor died. There's a section in the beginning which happens to be at a low point in the track and collected LOTS of water. One puddle covered the top of the tires. The rest were at least axle deep. At one point I got hung up in one and had to clutch to get the rpm's up and feathered the clutch with the motor basically WOT to get out. Well, 3 huge puddles about 10 seconds apart is what it took to waterlog my motor. Pulled the head and cylinder and flipped the quad upside down the next day and about 3 cups of muddy water drained out of the crank. Mind you I just rebuild the motor over the winter with a new Hot Rods +4mm crank kit that had only 4 races on it. So I wasn't at all too happy. But a powerwashing, some diesel rinsing and a thorough oiling down before reassembly and she fired right back up! Long live two strokes!

At the start of the race, I would have rode to the hauler. Call it a day. I hate mud and riding in rain. I will go miles out of my way to avoid it. I know, I'm a pu$$y.

I've always done extremely well at mud races. The last 4 I entered that it rained at, I won my class. There's something to not having that initial bottom end torque 4-pokes do to help it get around the course a lot easier with less slipping. It's very hard pack here and when it rains, it's like riding on an oil slick. Of course that also means it holds water very well and mud holes get nice and deep. lol  Next time I will just sit it out. Lesson learned!  ;)
