06 swing arm in 87 250r sprocket hub does not line up so time for adjustments. not that I was expecting a perfect line up with the chain. back in the mid 70's I watch and old man line up his front tires on his 64 nova with cement blocks and string. so I comprised a way of measuring the over all movement of the axle in the hub and how much movement there is. using the string method this helps me line up to the front wheels, I ran the string over the top of the wheels to balance out exact balanceleft and right to the front end. I also set up 2 sheat rock squares to aling from the front grab bar bolt. I then measured from the squares to the wheel rim. facing the bike from the rear. with the axle nut snuged up in its stock form it favors the .the swing arm slightly favors the right side by about 5/16 ths of an inch. I will call that base point. at base the chain alignment is off about 11/16 ths of an inch. to determine this I clamped a straight aluminum 3/8 rod to the rear sprocket and up to the front engine sprocket. just for a visual I placed a chain on it. just to see how far off it looked. now from base point I loosened the axle nut and slid the axle over 5/16ths of an inch this gave me better string balance to the front wheels. and reduced the distance on the angle from sprocket alignment by 5/16 ths of an inch. now in order to make up the difference. I am going to mill off 11/ 32 nds of an inch on the sprocket hub on the spring ring side and then re groove out the hub for the spring ring to but up against. I will then place a 11/ 16 ths of an inch spacer between the sprocket hub and the collar that ride onin the bearing seal area and alignment will be achieved.
