I am in the mdist of a DIY garage floor epoxy coating.

so far I have done the following:

- pressure washed
- cleaned with concrete cleaner and a brush.
- chemical etched
- cleaned and etched again

left to do:

- dry brush
- vacuum
- apply epoxy
- apply clear coat epoxy.

then I will move over to the other side of the garage.  this is the kit i used:  https://epoxymaster.com/

The only time I've done this, I was told to rent a shot blaster to use on the bare concrete to give it "tooth" so the paint would stick and maintain warranty on the paint. Total pain to do, but 16 years later there is no lifting of the paint. Looking for a new shop now, so I'll probably have to do it again.

It was recommended for best results (Shot blasting), but considering the slab is only two years old and passed all saturation tests.  and according to the experts, there was no need to shot blast.  I hope they are correct.

here is the epoxy down.  the only issue was the broadcasting of the plastic flake.  it was recommended to use a hand held seeder, and it did not go as described.  the seeder got jammed a couple times and left highly concentrated areas of the flake.  for anyone doing this in the future; broadcast the flake by hand.

all that is left is the clear coat.  which I will do today.

is the concrete sealed ? that is a big question this will stop dusting. in turn it will keep the epoxy on for a long time. I did my shop floor 33 x 35 half the floor was poured 15 years ago the second half was only a few months old. it could have come out better but would have cost $$$$$ I used commercial grade epoxy $ 80 a gallon put it on with a squeegee. I love it.

the dusting was from the etching process.  It was removed with denatured alcohol prior to epoxy application.

as for the epoxy.  it is commercial grade, 100% solids.  I applied with a squeegee.

here is the final product with the clear epoxy applied.  it turned out well, despite the plastic flake issues.

nothing is inherently wrong with concrete.  it just can be made more durable and have a better appearance.

I would assume that the epoxy would also resist oil stains and such. Looks good!
