That's good to know. Turns out the great condition, no crack frame in Missouri was complete junk. Oval holes and cracks everywhere. So the search continues.

Thanks Action69! I messaged him. Also messaged the two sellers with stock 86 frames for $500 plus $200 shipping.. Made an offer. If a bone stock 30 year old frame is going to cost $500 I'd rather spend another $1500 and buy aftermarket.

Good advice. I don't think I could bring myself to spend $500 on a 30yr old OEM frame. If one pops up again gusseted and coated I will be ready. I'm still upset that I missed the other one by one day because I thought I needed an 88.

your post here says the quad is an 88, but you have a post asking for 86/87.  which one do you want?  The swingarm mount is main difference.  sent you a pm on one I found via search tempest

My frame is an 88, but it turns out it has an 86/87 swingarm and rear engine mount. Either one will work honestly but I would prefer an 88.

Here's a question for the guru's.. Is the lower rear engine mount not used on an 88/89? I know they have the rear crossbar but that is only for the upper rear mount. I have heard the late model frames had tabs on the frame for the lower rear mount. I've yet to see a single frame with those tabs. I've yet to see a pic of any 88/89 model with a lower rear mount. Am I missing something or do they just not use that mounting point on the engine?

88-89 frame doesn't have tabs for the lower rear engine mount, just the upper. As you already know an 86-87 swinger will fit an 88-89 frame using the 86-87 rear mount with the top tabs cut off but if you use an 88-89 swinger on an 86-87 frame some type of rear mount has to be fabbed & welded to the frame.

So the lower rear mounting hole in the engine is NOT used on an 88/89? That's what I had gathered, but I didn't find much supporting evidence through Google. Thanks for the tip.

I am a bit surprised the after market makes 88/89 style swingarms at all.

Any ideas on the difference between 86- 87/88/89 shock linkage? I have a lowering link and want to get rid of it.

I know the 86 link is different from the 87/88/89. Is the only difference the length of dog bone? I have heard conflicting info about the bushing/bolt size.
