New LED HPI ignition
« on: February 28, 2019, 10:33:51 PM »
What do you guys know about LED’s new HPI ignition?  Pros? Cons? Set up?   There is some info on Facebook about it.  Says the cost is $330.  Has a lighting coil.   It says you have to set it up with a dial indicator.   Not sure how involved that is.  I’m still running a TRX ignition. A 330 on race gas can be a bit of a bastard to start.   The cost of the CR ignitions are getting ridiculous and you still have to do something for lights.   So what do you all think about it?

If you have to set it up with a dial indicator it sounds like a pvl ignition.  I'm interested in knowing more!

I saw that post, it sounds like a great alternative to the cr ignition. I think my 01 crapped out, if that's the case ill Serously consider the hpi. I'll have Arlan dyno and set it up for me.

I have the dial indicator to set it up. I will let you know how bad it is to setup. My friend has it ordered. It is what is going on the pilot motor. Darren what makes you think your cr is going out

What r the differences on the flywheels as far as size and weight.  Looks small in the pics from LED.

Yes flywheel is small. CRish in size. These are very similar to PVL.

I think Arlen advised him to get the flywheel weight that is available for it

I know Arlan was pushing PVL ignitions when I talked to him awhile ago. I had a great condition OEM, so I didn't bother at the time.

The CR250 stuff is ridiculous. It would be awesome if there was another option

I just set this up on a pilot cylinder motor for my friend. Setup was easy with a dial indicator. One thing I don't like about it is. It doesn't have a groove for a Woodruff key. In theory it shouldn't matter. As long as it stays tight. But it did start easily with no kick back. We just did initial fire up for now. So ride test will come later. Plus maybe see how the lighting circuit works.

No problem. So far seems like a decent setup. Didn't have any starting issues

Gene, how does it differ from a pvl besides lighting provision

It has a more traditional style flywheel. Instead of a internal rotor like pvl. I've never ran or setup a pvl.
