2001 CR250 piston replacement suggestions
« on: September 09, 2019, 09:02:48 AM »
Hello as the title states I need to swap out the piston on my 01 cr,I just noticed a crack about 1/2 inch long on the skirt thru the exhaust port.I haven’t pulled the cylinder yet to see if it’s scored. The bike ran but I bought it in need of some love and haven’t ridden it.Ive read mixed opinions about replacing with an Oem piston ,some like wiseco better because it’s forged instead of cast.Anyone have any opinions on this?thanks..

I 2nd that for a Wiseco piston just be sure to let the engine warm up good before going balls to the wall.

Forged pistons will be less prone to crack, but the OEM pistons will  stay tight longer because they do not collapse like the forged pistons and are made of an aluminum alloy that has a higher silicon content.  ANY piston that cracks should have be changed long ago.

Prefer cast myself, but have had good luck with Wiseco's in the CR's I used to run.
