Jetting help with new build

Hello all,

I was wondering what would be a good starting point for jetting on my build.  I've been trying to contact Eddie at ESR for a couple weeks about a few questions with no luck.  The motor specifics are ESR 330PV pump gas motor, TRX 7 porting, TRX 5 pipe and silencer, 38mm AS short body carb, open air filter with outwear.  My altitude is between 500-1000ft above sea level.  Temps are typically in the 60-80 degree range with humidity in the 60's.

My carb currently has a DGH needle in it with the clip in the 4th groove down from the top.  I've set the air screw to 1 1/2 turns out for a good starting point there.  It currently has a 190 main and 42 pilot, it's what it came with but more jets and pilots have already been ordered.

Also, with fuel......will running 40:1 be ok or should I play it a little safer on a new motor and run 32:1?

So..... I would up the pilot to a 52, your main will probably be pretty rich. My 310 with dune porting was running 50 pilot/182 main with dgh needle at the 3rd groove.
I have been running 40:1 mix ratio in two strokes for 20 years and have never had a lube related problem.

My 330 5mil motor with a 39 pwk is dgh middle, 52p and 185m
88 hybrid 431 puma
88 (BOF Build) stock motor and oem 89 plastics

Gentlemen,

Many thanks for the input on the jetting and fuel mix, it is greatly appreciated!!!  I had a feeling the 42 pilot that came in the carb was going to be a bit on the small side.  I was glad to see you folks provide your needle clip position, this is also a great help!  I'm still waiting for the pegs and heel guards to get here but think I'll just throw the stockers on to have something to land on when kicking her over for the first time.  Hoping to fire it up  this weekend and see how she sounds.

Any suggestions for heat cycling and/or break-in?  I was hoping to hear from Eddie on what he prefers for his cylinders but I haven't heard a peep in roughly two weeks.  I like asking the the manufacturer what they prefer since it is their product and there are such a wide variance in break-in methods.

all the info you are looking for is on here if you search   ;)

in this forum there is a jetting database sticky and if you search for "break-in" you will find the info you are looking for on that topic.

not trying to be a jerk, just saying the site is a bit slow, but thats cause almost everything to be discussed has already been discussed!   ;D
