Tow rope ?
« on: January 31, 2020, 02:11:15 AM »
Do any of you carry a tow rope for when things go wrong. How long ? I've always carried a 20/30 foot recovery line/strap in my trucks, complete with a few shackles but, what about the quad ? I've never needed it for myself, but there always seems to be a use for it when out on the trails/sand. sure beats a loooong walk.

I always carry a 30' +/- piece of mule tape & have needed it before. It's compact & if you get some that's 3/4" wide it's good for 2500#. I also carry a first aid kit & usually water.

Mule tape is definitely the way to go. A couple of 3/8 shackles are great to have so you don't have to cut the mule tape after the tow

I use mule tape also,  cheap and strong.  I carry 20-30', and typically cut the knots off when i'm done using it.

and if mule tape isn't strong enough, your R shouldn't even be pulling it!

When in the dunes I just mob my truck out to wherever the broke down machine is. I do not tow anything in the sand with a quad.

Same, we get lucky on the Oregon dunes.  In Glamis, I had to carry a strap, and glad I did because had to use it lol.

Hahahaha i had to look up "mule tape" Never heard of that one, I've used fish tape many times, do you use a fish tape to push the mule tape thru first ? I've done my share of residential work, but not much commercial.

Depends on the distance. If its longer than a standard 250' fish tape will go than you can use a vacuum on one end & a mouse tied to jet line being fed from the other end. If you don't have a mouse you can make a ghost using a plastic bag & tie the jet line to it. Than use the jet line to pull in the mule tape.
