Swingarm Skid plate
« on: April 07, 2020, 01:35:34 PM »
I hope everyone is healthy and staying safe.  ;) I need some help. I recently installed the 86 dog bone and rear shock linkage, to my 88 frame. The purpose was to lower the rear, which it did nicely. I knew the 88 swingarm skid plate would not mount up, because of the lowering of the shock. The 86 plate has the extra clearance for the shock, but the mounting holes are in a different location. Does anybody have an 86 swingarm, that can get me some mounting hole X & Y dimensions? What's different about the 87 swingarm? When you buy the plates, they comes as 86 only, 87 only and 88-89. I appreciate any info. Thanks.

Hey F-Red, the 86 is all it’s own.  The 87-89 use the same skid plate.  At least that’s what the old catalogs stated (AC Racing and DG).  I have a 87 oem swing arm and 87-89 Aftermarket arms with skid mounts I can measure this Friday or Saturday.

Thanks Joe. I've been talking to XFR Fab in Utah. These are their pics. They do represent the correct year to pic. They say each are unique.

Fred what about some spacers all the way around for a little extra clearance?

I'm a similar issue. I have what I remember as an '86' custom +4" Lonestar swing arm that I want to add a skid plate to. I will need to cut out the chain area to clear the TM chain guide/follower, but have not found a '86' skid plate to measure to be sure. I could measure my swing arm to give you an idea on what the measurements are, I believe it's an '86'

Hey Jared. I’m trying to keep the plate as close to the swing arm as possible.

I would appreciate that. I assume Lonestar had the same location mounts.

That’s what I did. Mounts flush to the rear mounts (No Spacers). In the first picture, you’ll see the results in the front mount. Over an inch gap. More than I desire.

OK, I measured it. My swing arm is a +2". My measurements are close, not how I would normally do it but, here ya go;
from the swing arm pivot centerline its ~6" to the first skid mount, the mounts are 5"3/16" apart. Then it is 14"3/8" from the first mount, to the mount closest to the axle carrier,             Those mounts are 3"5/16" apart. All are tapped to 8mm x 1.25mm Of course that is "IF" Lonestar got them right. and I don't have a lot of faith in them.
Swing arm measures 21".5" center to center.

87 Trx250r stock swing arm:  front to back 12 9/16.  Width at axle carrier is 3 7/8.  I can’t get the width at the front section (one mount is smashed to one side).  Best guess it looks like 5”.
