I do the break in with the same mix ratio that I run normally. 40:1 is what I go with. If you normally run 32:1 then go with that. Oil ratio is all about your preference. 32:1-40:1 is very common.

Ok I haven't mixed any yet and was waiting for a reply. I think I will go with 40:1

Arlen most likely lubed the piston, wrist pin bearing, rod bearing, and main bearings  when he assembled the engine.  So be prepared for excessive smoke for a few minutes.

Because of the fact most people run either 40:1 or 32:1 I mix mine in the middle at 36:1.

Every time you change your oil ratio you may have to rejet. Less oil means more gas which is richer and the opposite for more oil....
So for simplicity sake pick a mix ratio and stick with it unless you have a oil related problem.

ok then i will stick with 40:1 then. i got it running and its super crisp but the floats are sticking in my carb and then over flowing the bowl so tomorrow i will take my carb apart and check if the floats are either punctured or just way out of adjustment. its a cr500 carb i think. i will double check tomorrow.

I run 32:1 either 32:1 or 40:1 is fine I know Honda required these motors to run 20:1 I believe when they was new but oil in 1986 compared to today’s oil is completely different today’s oils is a lot more refined then it was in the 80s

I've ran R50 at 40:1 for years, no issues and plenty of lube.  Makes easy mixing (1 pint to 5 gal) is 3.2oz oil per gallon which is plenty with today's oils.

Honda stated a premix ratio of 20:1 more as a cya for them to try & prevent people from under lubricating their engines & bringing them in for warranty on crank replacements. If people actually ran 20:1 they usually fouled a lot of plugs... Got my 86 in 88 shortly after my friend got his 88 new & we both always ran 40:1 with Klotz Benol back than.
