i am thinking of picking up some pro taper evo fat bars for my R and was curious will i need to purchase risers also.

you will need fat bar adapters, which will raise your bars a little.

or get new handlebar mounts for the big bars

I ran these (or like these, not sure if 400EX will work or not) on a stock 250R stock stem YEARS back and loved them. Looked great too.  But for $100 for adapters, you're not far off from a new stem and anti-vibe clamp. http://www.billetware.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=6&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

the ones im getting come with the adapters for the fat bars. paid $42.00 for the pro taper fat bars, adapters and pad.
