“Bill Ballance is the last racer to overall a GNCC on a 250R based machine. The Kentucky GNCC legend won the final race of 2003 at the Ironman round”

His quote on the podium, "This is the best way to retire this two stroke machine. Now, it is time to make this thing obsolete and bring out the production machines. I am looking for the factories to come in and make this sport just what we want." Bill had no idea how right he would be. The factories and production bikes DID come, the sport DID change, and almost just as fast it all ended”.

two Hawks and a Bad Chad.  Barry Hawk’s ‘99 championship Laeger (narrow front, cr500 link, protrax, PEP ZPS, LRD 330 Pro X), Chad Duvall’s ‘97 Roll Design lobo (no link, Axis, Paul Turner/Duncan Racing) and the replica of Hawk’s ‘97 championship Laeger (narrow front, cr500 link, protrax, Ohlins/Works, LRD 300 resleeve).   57 GNCC ATV wins combined between the pair of Barry and Chad.

Pennsylvania's Chris Borich on his Laeger 250R back in '03. Chris would win three races that season, but Bill Ballance would win nine and the GNCC title. The next several seasons, Borich would go through Yamaha and Honda 450's before deciding on the LTR450. It was on the 'zuki that he won six straight GNCC championships and the majority of his seventy five wins. Two and a half decades later, Borich is still on pro row and the last remaining current pro racer to have raced a 250R in the GNCC pro class.

Interesting

Mark Ehrhardt on the CT Racing 250R from somewhere around the 1991 era. These frames were 4130 chromoly and $1,700 from CT back then. Seems like they were very limited production and rare.

C&J racing frame
