how to search dealerships for stock?

Does anyone know a site to search dealer inventory of parts?  I recall a couple people mentioned searching dealerships to find if they had certain discontinued parts in their inventory.

Unfortunately I don?t recall hearing about any search websites  that would help us look up inventories.

I have a buddy that was able to get his local Honda dealership to do a Nationwide search (he had a family member working in the parts department).  So, if no one has an exact answer to your question I?d suggest:

1.  Go to your local Honda dealership with a list of parts numbers to see if they will help you out.  I tried this with my local little Honda shop.  You were able to shelves upon shelves of old cardboard parts bins.  Unfortunately they said they had nothing.  Keep your fingers crossed since I believe most if not all dealerships have been picked clean.

2. Make a wanted post.  Many parts hoarders usually don?t post up what they have available.  They will usually private message you.  Behind the scenes sales especially with NOS parts.

My first job was at a motorcycle dealership and they hired me mostly to clean up their upstairs that was absolutely chock full of parts they had basically no record or use for.  Any inventory from say 1988ish was on computer database, but all the stuff from the 70s and most 80s was just on paper files and they never bothered to implement it into the computer database.  Like you said, Im sure those treasure troves are long gong now.

its crazy all the stock stuff we just tossed is now worth $$$, airboxes, stock exhaust, headlights, etc.  Not sure I understand this market to have 100% stock machines.

I never tossed stuff unless it was totally worn out.  I had a habit of giving useable stuff away.  In todays market hundreds if not thousands worth in parts.  All good since I felt like I was helping fellow broke enthusiast.  Now as far as building 100% true restorations…I know a few guys that did it…all regret it when it was said and done.  They did damn near 90% true oem quads using NOS parts.

I was in a good spot back in 2015-2018 to purchase lots of NOS and take out parts.  Expensive but being a closet hoarder I couldn’t stand that fact of not being able to get new parts.  Albeit more than I’ll ever need.  Now I call it my 401R plan.  Not 401K lol.
