Suspension and Chassis / Re: Swingarm Skid plate
« on: April 07, 2020, 07:45:05 PM »
Fred what about some spacers all the way around for a little extra clearance?

Hey Jared. I’m trying to keep the plate as close to the swing arm as possible.

I'm a similar issue. I have what I remember as an '86' custom +4" Lonestar swing arm that I want to add a skid plate to. I will need to cut out the chain area to clear the TM chain guide/follower, but have not found a '86' skid plate to measure to be sure. I could measure my swing arm to give you an idea on what the measurements are, I believe it's an '86'
Let me know
desertR

I would appreciate that. I assume Lonestar had the same location mounts.

I have a custom fabricated swingarm on an 86 and if I recall correctly there are spacers in the front area.im heading to my garage now so I can take a look

That’s what I did. Mounts flush to the rear mounts (No Spacers). In the first picture, you’ll see the results in the front mount. Over an inch gap. More than I desire.

Thanks Joe. I've been talking to XFR Fab in Utah. These are their pics. They do represent the correct year to pic. They say each are unique.

Suspension and Chassis / Swingarm Skid plate

I hope everyone is healthy and staying safe.  ;) I need some help. I recently installed the 86 dog bone and rear shock linkage, to my 88 frame. The purpose was to lower the rear, which it did nicely. I knew the 88 swingarm skid plate would not mount up, because of the lowering of the shock. The 86 plate has the extra clearance for the shock, but the mounting holes are in a different location. Does anybody have an 86 swingarm, that can get me some mounting hole X & Y dimensions? What's different about the 87 swingarm? When you buy the plates, they comes as 86 only, 87 only and 88-89. I appreciate any info. Thanks.

You can post pics from you camera roll. Use the reply button, not the quick reply.

Just a test. I’ll delete the pic. Don’t want to contaminate your thread.

A .50 grommet not included? What the what? As Gene said. McMaster-Carr should have what you need.

Congrats on the renovation. A simple upgrade can turn into a snowball. Well worth the effort and money when completed. Self-Gratification! If I remember correctly, I think some guys just manipulated the available hoses on the radiator nipples. Do a search, you find some info. Good luck.

Welcome to the site. Those eBay guys have always listed those hoses in error. I have an 88 so those listed work for me. Someone here will be able to help.

Leave it to Jerry to go the extra effort and BLOW our minds! Can we assume, Sonny's billet intake would be the answer?

This is for you Myles. The pic is a little misleading. But there is a significant difference.

F-Red:

Using an OEM type carb clamp will make life easier on any intake boot.  The clamp that you are using above, makes life a little more difficult on the hose because that type of radiator clamp tends to "bunch up the rubber" on one side of the hose.

I respect your opinion Jerry. Been using these style clamps on boots forever. I’ll look for another style. It started when using ESR’s air box eliminator kit. A ridged mount to the frame. The only movement the air filter has, is at the boot.

UPP said they have never seen this failure before. They did agree to replace. Hallelujah!

Fred, if you get a chance can you post a pic without the hose clamp
