Hey all,
This years meet was pretty awesome! We had somewhere between 20 and 25 250r enthusiasts out there. We were able to get some pretty nice pictures and meet some new friends. I had hoped for a more organized group ride, but keeping track of a bunch of dudes on 250r's is like herding cats! Anyway I am going to take the initiative again and set some dates. August is by far my favorite time to be in the dunes so once again I say the 3rd weekend in August. That would be the 16th-19th of August. I think for simplicity sake we should invade the overflow camping area this time. The overflow area is pretty much at the bottom of banshee hill. It is most times a hard packed wet sand and the wind doesn't kick up so much sand. Broken1 you will hopefully be able to eat sand free chili this year. Anyway..... Lets make this year even better than last year! If anyone has camping or lodging questions feel free to pm me.
Thanks, Loren

Sounds like a plan Loren
-
We’re gonna try to make it next summer I can’t guarantee anything at this time Ive been looking for another job if I find one not real sure I’ll get the time off but I can make it work I’ll be there
-
Thanks for firing up this thread Loren. 3rd weekend in August is a good one.
Agreed on pretty much everything you posted:
- better group camp location (Banshee hill area good spot)
- bit more structure (at least a group ride, meet & greet lunch)
-
Are these the for sure dates we’re going with still unsure if I’ll make it but gonna try
-
I hope these are for sure. I already put I. For these dates
-
1900 miles, man I really wanna bring the boy out.
-
The dates are set in stone! I hope everyone wanting to come out and play can make it.
-

Yes they are now lol

Working on a little Google map with Oregon dune-related stuff. Not specific to the meet-up but could be useful for those not familiar with the area.

I think we should get pics from last year and info into dirtwheels. They usually have those group pics in the back.
Also I like the idea of coming up with a flyer. So guys could print it off this site. Than put them in local shops.
-
Looking like we won’t be making it at this time

Awesome ideas Gene!
Let's discuss "group" events (for any 'ol person that shows up there) we want to have down there. What do you guys want to have?
- Lunch meet n greet on the sand - BBQ up some burgers and dogs?
- Group photo at XX location
- Group ride
-
Looking like we wont be making it at this time
Don't like to hear that!

Ya I know my little sister might be getting married in August and wants us there
-
Well that sucks Jeremy. Might just have to tell her to reschedule. Just joking. Maybe try to plan to come up another time and as many of us could try to make it.

At this time she doesn’t have any date set for the wedding but with my schedule at work changing next month gonna make it hard to do both without using up all my vacation at once

3,178 miles 51 hours non stop. nope i ain't gonna make it. wish i could.

I did that in a Jeep on 40’s. With a 10 gallon fuel cell haha. Gotta enjoy those road trips!
I’ll make it out there one day. My buddy here keeps telling me the dunes are the best riding ever..

Try an keep the thread fresh still unsure if I’m going to make it this year gonna try

This shouldn't be an excuse because Hawaii to Oregon is 2603mi 😛

I want to see you pay to get your 250r on the flight Josh hahaha
-
I might go again but won’t know til probably a few weeks out. Last year, it just happened to be the same date that my buddy and I could get away. I hadn’t been to Oregon dunes since about 2008 prior to last year.

I hope you do. Would like to get to ride with you this year. Since I ended up leaving early

If you do end up going please get in touch with me. I will direct you to our camp area. This year I am going to hijack a big area in the overflow camping area.
Thanks Loren

i havent heard anymore on my sister getting married this year if she doesnt we might make it

ive thought about it. i wouldnt ship a 100% complete quad. less plastic and wheels. dissembled and in a crate to minimize the size. detachable subframe would help even more. i would set it up to buy plastic and wheels while i was up there. assemble it all right there at the dunes with the help of all my buddies. or assemble at Kevins place. Kevin and i spoke about leaving a quad up at his place for me. wouldnt be a bad idea. all that would make for some great stories. not that we dont have some good ones already. last year i bought a set of Full Bores. $600 for the plastics and $435 to take them on the plane with me home. unreal. i know of local guys doing crazier things to get stuff from the mainland home. last trip i spent a lot of $. seeing that i also stopped by at LED to visit Arlan. all worth it. couldnt do it without the kindness of Kevin and his wife.

That would be sweet to have a bike at Kevin's spot.. he's a standup guy for sure!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Josh it might be cheaper to just buy an R here in Oregon than ship parts & you know your welcome to leave it here.

Thanks homie😊 then your wife can ride my R lol
-
I have a stocker here for $2,500
-
Maybe Eddie will be around at the 2019 meet up with his quad for guys to take a spin on.
-
We definitely need to contact him. Let him know since he's in the neighborhood now
-
I need to make this meet up (almost positive I will). I’d make a mini vacation out of it and stay for 7-10 days. A few members offered me to borrow a ride (I appreciate it) but I’d rather have my own. Shipping one of mine is not at option at the moment....so I guess I’m in the market.
I’ve never been out west so I’d make the most of it...of course mostly R related lol.
Joe
-
Sounds like you need to talk to Tony about that stocker Joe
-
Joe it would be great to have you with us. If you end up with a stock R I will let you run my 310 motor. It will be just sitting around anyway
-
I’m starting a new job here soon with the schedule I’ll be on I’ll have 50/50 chance of making it this year really hoping to making it
-
Getting closer who’s all going still not sure if we’ll make it or not
-
I’ll be there.
-
Count me in
-
I'll be there

What did I miss???

ESR has moved to Oregon. He is a little south of coos bay
-
Jealous. I think I would be star struck lol
-
I can't stay as long as we did the first 2 years but I'll be there probably Saturday morning & leave Sunday early afternoon.
-
Counting the days.... I can’t wait to get on the plane

Just a refresher... August 16th-18th are the official dates for the Winchester R meet. I will be there the 15th-20th camping in the overflow area. My camp is open for people to drop by and say hello.

Just over a month to go!!!!!!! Who's in?

Hey guys - can't wait to see all the R's down on the sand again for this event! Talked to Gene last night and he got me fired up, summer is flying by so let's do a little prep and finalize the times!
I want to firm up a few times - all thoughts/feedback is welcome!
Saturday: Meet & Greet Lunch - 12-2 (or 1-3) @ Overflow Area. Who will have a grill? I can bring extra propane and stuff to grill up.
------------------------
Now for the feedback PRO/CONs on the Group Ride and Group Photo.
Saturday AM - good time, will miss the people that show up midday. Saturday post-lunch - I'll need some downtime to digest all that food lol. Saturday late afternoon - good lighting, could be good for a group pic too?
-
I can try to squeeze my big gas grill in with my quads. If I can't get it in I will for sure have a small grill. Propane will not be an issue. For the lunch.... are we all responsible for bringing our own food? We can use my camp as a base camp/staging area. I will have a large area ribboned off. Lastly, I am available for a group ride/photo anytime.

It would be fantastic if we could meet and storm banshee hill! Then maybe take the 250R mob on a circuit around the Winchester. I have a favorite loop my boys and I usually hit twice a day. I would also like to not lead the ride as I need to keep my eyes on my boys.
I am excited about this year! Joe from Ohio is coming!
-
Saturday: One group ride in the morning. Lunch meet /greet from 1-3. Another group ride late afternoon.
Joe
-
I hope everyone has R ready and their bags packed! Brrraaaaaaaaaap!!

Loren - do you have the .ORG banner we can stake up?
-
This schedule look good for everyone? If so, we'll call it final and I'll post up on Facebook also.
-
Loren - do you have the .ORG banner we can stake up?
You bet I do. I has been in my toy hauler since Joe let me borrow it. I will have it out front of my camp as a beacon to all 250R enthusiasts!
-
I'm ready! Trailer is loaded! I'm sitting in a lawn chair staring at the trailer!
-
Everyone have a great time! And be safe haha.
Take plenty of pics for the rest of us.
-
You are just going to have to fly out here next year Myles
-
Sounds like one helluva time to me, Gene. It will happen sooner than later I hope.
Anyone have a GoPro for some footage possibly? I would ship mine to someone had I thought about it sooner.
-
I haven't finalized anything but I'm considering coming in for the 1pm to 3pm Saturday meet/lunch. My 'R" isn't done yet, but I wouldn't mind the drive to Winchester as I live just north of Seattle, would it be OK if I showed up without an 'R' There are a couple of points I would like to scope out on your 'R's to clarify in my mind, as I just don't see any up here.

Come on down! Do you have anything to ride?

there is more up there then you think
-
I was thinking of maybe renting something for the afternoon ? i have a Kawasaki I could bring, but it's not exactly a dune runner, it's my utility/hunting ride.

I see plenty of utility quads out there. Rental quads are expensive!

Bring it down and hang out

Hell yeah come on down! Doesn't matter what you ride, any R enthusiast is welcome no matter what they're riding (we just might kick ya out of the group photo lol). I'm bringing a good friend of mine who rides dirt bikes and has never been to the sand. He'll jump on the spare R as needed. So the more the merrier!

I cannot ride so I am just going to be there for the Saturday lunch meet without a ride. Anyone showing up is welcome.

What an awesome weekend. Glad we got everyone's r's running well. Great meeting and riding with Joe. Then to get to hang out with a 250r legend priceless. I already can't wait for next year.
-
My wife & son had a blast & already making plans for next year's meet. Great times with some great people. Thanks to everyone that made it & thanks to Joe for making the trip. Next year I think we'll have more out of tower's including Josh. Meeting Eddie Sander's & riding & having a beer with him was cool, he's down to earth & very easy to talk to. He's a hell of a rider to.
