Title: The Dream Build
Post by: Anthony0327 on August 26, 2015, 12:03:33 AM
Ok so I had my old post taken down. Wasn't happy how I presented it, plus a few things changed so here it is for the final time. I started with the engine because these parts where hardest to find for me. My engine has the  appearance of the 86-87 Trx250r but it has all the updated 88-89 internals. Only parts on the engine that aren't NOS are the stator Cover, clutch cover, Cylinder and crank., everything else, every nut, bolt, washer and gear is all NOS including the center cases.  The crank is a rebuilt 88-89 with pro x rod kit. The Hinson mod and plate are new along with pump assembly and pump cover. I've been asked many times what I used for color on the parts I painted. I used Duplicolor Storm Gray Spray paint and Duplicolor Clear coat on the Side covers. The specs of the engine are 87 Cylinder with 67mm bore, 19cc cool head and ported by non other than Bubba Ramsey. The cylinder was untouched before porting.  (http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6202_2017-04-18_7776.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6203_2017-04-18_8167.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6205_2017-04-18_6595.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6206_2017-04-18_5075.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6207_2017-04-18_216.jpg)

Red is one of my favorite colors and I think it looks and goes really good with the gray. Here the engine is pretty much finished up except exhaust flange, reds and intake boot. Also using a 2001 CR250 Ignition and a Hinson Works Clutch Basket. The frame I will be using at this time is an 89 Frame. I bought the frame already powdered so I don't know the color code for it. Also am using the 88-89 swing arm. I love how they look. Aside from the frame and oem swing arm everything else will be after market including the shocks. Will eventually have an extended axle and plus 2 or 3 long travel a arms up front. The seat is a new black oem seat and the gas tank is from an 87. I think the red is a bit deeper than the later models. Will also be using 89 spindles and oem rear hubs on this. The front bumper is an nos R.I.S. Designs. It's different from the norm and I like it. Heres the tank and seat I will be using. Also will be using a set of all black Roll Design Pegs. May add nerf bars later but for now just the pegs. Shocks are Long Travel Elka stage 3 at 19 1/4 length eye to eye. Engine looks pretty sick man. Building with NOS components freaked me out at first, but take your time and it works out fine,

Good start to the build

Thanks TBone, was nerve racking putting this stuff together cause I built everything myself and have never built one of these before. I won't stop being nervous  till I fire it up and I take the first ride.

Thanks guys. Got a little done but not much. Got the engine mocked up in the frame with the bolts hand tightened. Also rebuilt my rear shock linkage with a pivot works kit. They really are nice kits. Also I know my new engine mounts don't match but I don't know the color code for my frame so I think I'm going to leave it for now depending on how much it bothers me as I get more done. Next update I will have my new rear swing arm pivot seals in, oem pivot bolt, linkage and shock in.  (http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6236_2017-04-18_9270.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6237_2017-04-18_621.jpg)

Looking really nice. Your taking your time to do it right. I suggest you get some Pumashine polished motor mounts for the front. It will look really nice with your cool head as well as not having to see that color difference. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion I hadn't even thought of that. Maybe I can get a raw set and see if I can get the color matched to the frame cause I'd like to stick with the red.

The lighter red on the motor mounts will not be as noticeable when you put the seat and gas tank on. They are pink compared to the frame. When I got done with my blue bike build we counted 43 shades of blue on the bike.

So little update. Got my rear shock and swing arm all squared away. Has new Oem chain slider and pivot seals. I didn't rebuild the bearings in the swing arm cause they felt really smooth and didn't have any play. Also got in my VForce 3 reeds and Upp intake manifold. Bolt order is together an in the process of being placed. I think it looks pretty cool with the Oem swinger and black and red shock. Goes with my theme. Will have a few more pics soon. Progress will be slow though as of right now but As much as I'd like to be done soon, I can wait. Already been almost 2 years what's a little more time. Just ordered most of my hardware. All Oem. Never thought bolts would be as much as they are.

I have many old bolts I want to have zinc plated one day. But I did the same ordered a bunch of all the common sizes. A lil spendy but it looks like new. I could not get the short 6mm bolts with the 8mm drive. Honda replaced them with the 10mm drive. But my service guy in town has them all for like 50 cents each.

I had an aftermarket bolt kit but I sold it. Certain things don't fit as well as Oem,at least on an Oem frame. Even with what I ordered I only got about 40% of what i needed. The most expensive bolts are the a arm bolts an nuts. Very pricey

So little update. Got my reeds and Upp intake in. Also got my head stay, new rear master cylinder and brake lever on. I hope it's not to gaudy with all the red and turns out looking ok. Also got a new shifter. It's a pro design power shifter I think the name is. It's a little shorter than the stock length. Also received most of my Oem bolts in. Soon I will order the rest. Took me a little finagling to get my head stay to line up. Had to loosen everything and lift the engine up a bit but I got it.   (http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6591_2017-04-18_5331.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6592_2017-04-18_2213.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6593_2017-04-18_3244.jpg)

So there's been a new development since my last post. Kinda moving in reverse again but it's for a good reason. A good buddy hooked me up with some of these and since everything is new in there already this is the perfect time to put them in, rather than down the road when things are used. Puting new on new is the right way to do things and fortunately I have the means to do that. Engine will come out and the new gears are going in this week. I'm pumped I got them so for sure down the road I will do a bigger top end at some point. Also here's a picture side by side with the oem. I've never actually seen a set in person but the Yukons are definitely beefier than the oem gears and very well made. I also found a few other small things I had been looking for which will be here in the very near future. Also found the rear master guard IVe been looking for, for a while. Thanks Jon!(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6707_2017-04-18_2628.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6706_2017-04-18_5087.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/984_6705_2017-04-18_9510.jpg)

So haven't been on in a while and haven't gotten much further on this build but it is headed in a good direction. The oem frame has since been sold and I'm having a Narrow cr500 link built as we speak. And No it's not a Walsh. Since my last post I've acquired new oem plastics, new cr500 linkage, Roll Design Plus 4 front end & stem and a bunch of other stuff. Hopefully within the coming weeks my frame will be done and I will start building.

Well no Frame yet But should be here soon. Don’t know if I posted this but I did away with my oem frame and will be using a Narrow cr500 link frame. Every part on this bike now will be brand new. I’ve acquired all the Nos parts I was missing since on here last. Soon as the frame comes the bike will be built and ridden. Won’t just sit I promise that. Soon as I get some pictures loaded I will update with some photos. Sorry all for the delay. Had overcome a few obstacles but am in the clear now. Been 4 years in the making but I will have what I believe one of the nicest builds seen in a very long time.

Action69, not sure if it’s a match or even close. It’s a color I’ve seen on other older school builds and that’s what I wanted. Wasn’t trying to replicate the factory color though. If you want an exact match pm me and I can put you in touch with a person who can tell you what you need to know. They had the colors reserved tonget the exact matches.

Nice, how does the subframe fit?

Subframe fits perfect as it should. There where only a few small things that needed tweaking with this frame especially considering it is the first one ever made. . I couldn’t be happier how it turned out. Everything fits nice and tight as it should. This frame also uses a thicker wall tubing then was used on the Laeger, lone stars and any other of the frames that were produced and still only weighs in at 33 pounds. Isf did an amazing job on this frame. Few small things were added such as the Cr coil mount and the screw on holder for the rear brake lever. Isf also addressed the vertical bends at the exhaust port for the pipe to fit. Now the exhaust clears the frame with ease. It’s no wonder this wasn’t thought of yeas ago instead of having to wrestle with a tight fit.

So my shocks came in yesterday. I’m almost there. Still waiting on carb, exhaust flange, wheels & tires and my swinger from the shop from getting the bearings pressed in. I went With the Pep PB1 up front and the zps dual rate rear. These are really nice shocks. Didn’t realize how much goes into setting them up the right way. Hopefully within the week I should have the rest of my parts and be ready to get this thing tuned and get going with it. Been a very long time with this build but it has all the parts I wanted and is right the first time round. I also had my seat covered with a gripper cover from fourwerx. Cbr Rad and RTC shrouds and handles levers are what I went with. Front end is on too just need to get the shocks put on today.  Coming out nice if I do say so myself.

Here it is folks. Finally coming together. Had a few hiccups but hope to be done very soon. I guess working with custom stuff it’s to be expected. Front end and rear end is on and buttoned up. Did a leak down on my brand new engine and found out the cases were warped from the factory and wouldn’t seal. So apart engine came yet again but is going back together as we speak. On the other hand building with all new parts has been a blessing. Nothing to rebuild and don’t have to worry about it’s service life to come. Long as I maintain it should be good to go for a long time to come.

Custom Galfer Brake lines came today. I think they turned out dope. Smoked gray line with blue fittings and red banjo bolts. I know the build has been delayed quite often but hopefully I’ll have it done soon. I never figured I’d have as many issues building a custom bike but I guess that’s how these things go. Lines are installed and bled. I’m really liking the feel of the 450r front brakes. They feel very tight and I’m sure I have to attribute some of that to the stainless lines.

She’s a pretty bitch but don’t just sit in the garage that’s for sure. Can’t imagine why people build these high dollar machines and let them sit. And not to pat myself on the back but the pictures do this thing no justice. I believe I haven’t missed a thing on this. Fourwerx hood installed this past week. I went on Pro-Boltusa.com. They have the countersunk washers, screws and bolts you would need. These happen to be aluminum holding the Fourwerx cover on. Titanium didn’t have the red screws but I do have another set that’s the same except the screw is natural and those are all titanium fasteners. Titanium is expensive. The aluminum wasn’t bad at all.

On another note, between Pro-boltusa and racetechtitanium, you can get every single bolt for our quads. Anything you want they have. I’ve recently changed my Front shock mount bolts to blue titanium along with my upper rear shock mount. Sub frame and chain roller all titanium bolts.

So I changed up the tires on this thing. The 20” front and 18” rear weren’t cutting it in the trails I ride. So on went a set of Maxxis 22”x7x10 front tires and 20x11x8 rear tires. The xc tires handle way better in the stuff inride in and makes the quad even more of a pleasure to ride. Between the Roll front end and CR500 rear this thing handles it all. Very pleased how the quad turned out. Handles better than I imagined it would, however I’m a bit wide for the trails and will be narrowing the quad up both front and rear to make it more trail friendly.
