So, does the flywheel still use the key-way on the crank?

I was there with an old friend and 2 bikes. It was very cool riding in a pack of 30 250r's! Just as an FYI, some of the guys that were there are talking about doing a 2nd 250r group ride up there again this year.

Engine and Bottom End / Re: CR ignition constant voltage
« on: April 25, 2018, 10:40:23 PM »
Just as an update after talking to Ricky Stator I ended up buying a new stator with a parallel lighting circuit and a A/C voltage regulator. The egt works just not at idle. The egt pops to life after about 1/8 throttle, which is fine by me. If I wanted to have power at idle I would have to buy a rectifier and then probably would still have to hook up a small battery. Or I could just hook up a small battery and not even use the stator, I would just have to charge the battery in between rides. Just an FYI for anyone interested.

Engine and Bottom End / CR ignition constant voltage
« on: April 02, 2018, 10:55:09 PM »
Hey guys, I currently have a 2001 CR ignition and I want to run an egt unit such as this.
http://www.exhaustgas.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=1482&DepartmentID=10&CategoryID=71&RepID=&BasketID=2018421491750957.69
So my question is does anyone know if one of the wires going to the coil has constant voltage and what that voltage is? The unit will operate off of AC or DC but the info on the website is kind of confusing since it says just 12 volts. You would think that on AC you would need more voltage. So, if anyone has experience with these or is an ignition guru any help would be great.

Thanks,
Mike

Engine and Bottom End / Clutch cover question
« on: November 12, 2017, 06:57:10 AM »
I tried searching but didn't really get an answer for my question. I need to know if I can bolt up an 88/89 clutch cover on an 86/87 motor? I know the kick starters are different between the 2 versions but I don't know what is exactly different. I also know the 86/87 uses a spacer on the kick starter shaft and the 88/89 covers have the spacer built in. I was looking at Macdizzzy and found that it said there was a difference in mounting bosses as well. If I have to machine the spacer that is no big deal but if the dowels or some other type of mounting is different then that would be a problem. Let me know if someone has already tried this.

I will building a CPI 350 or 370 motor here in a couple of months and this intake and airbox has my attention. Is this for a stock frame? What type of price range are we looking at?

Engine and Bottom End / Motor ideas???
« on: October 26, 2017, 10:57:14 PM »
So, my bike has been sitting in pieces for the last 2 years because of life. I took the motor apart because it needed the top end freshened up and I wanted to fix the cases, cyro the tranny, etc. Just never got it done. So, 2 weeks ago I bought my 16 year old son his first 250r and now I need to quit screwing around and finish my bike so we can ride. My question for everyone is based on experience what kind of motor build w/pipe would you guys recommend for a do it all bike. We will be trail riding, visiting Silver Lake sand dunes, and if he wants we might hit up a mx track or look for some XC stuff.  I have decided against using my old ported stock cylinder because it looks like it was a learning tool for someone and I need to buy a pipe anyways, so in my mind I might as well get a bb pipe!!! I already have a 38mm carb, boyseen rad valve and a 01 CR ignition. I have actually thought about seeing if Eddie Sanders is going to offer the same deal he had last year with a set of cases and one of his 363 cylinders in a motor builders package but wondered if that would be too much for the woods? I have also thought about seeing if I could swing for a CPI sphinx cylinder in the 330cc range. I know this would probably be the most expensive route. Let me know what you guys think.

Engine and Bottom End / CT 350 PV thoughts
« on: October 25, 2017, 04:53:00 PM »
Hey guys,
Just looking for some opinions on the CT 350 PV motor package. I am looking at buying a used one and would be using this as an all around motor, trail, dunes, play riding. I was told it has their basic mid-range porting with a 39mm carb and v-force reeds and is on the 2nd bore. Any input would be appreciated on this motor or CT stuff in general.

Engine and Bottom End / Tranny Pics with questions
« on: October 07, 2016, 06:44:04 PM »
Ok, so I am about to start putting together a list of everything I need to start my big bore engine build. First I am going to send out the tranny for cryo treatment. So here are a couple of pics from my tranny gears that I need some opinions on.
#1 some of the gears have some noticeable scarring/scratches on the mating surfaces and I need to know if these can be polished out or just leave them?
#2 some of the engagement paw windows and tabs on the gears have noticeably worn the corners and I need to know if it is possible to clean these areas up or do I risk breaking through the surface hardness area?
#3 are there any parts in the tranny that I should not send out for treatment?
#4 I have access to microscopes and even an electron microscope as well as some other image enhancement scanners that will allow me get some more detailed views of everything. So is there any known areas of concern that I should really pay attention too as well?
I know Arlen is making some of the gears for us but I don't want to stop using a part just because it is no longer perfect if it can still be trusted.
Thanks for any help.

Engine and Bottom End / New ESR motor running great
« on: June 18, 2016, 09:11:12 PM »
I am looking at doing almost the exact same build but maybe a little larger cc. Can you give us a round about cost for everything with the cases, crank and any extras. About how long did all the work take to get done? If you don't want to say publicly, can you just PM me.

Thanks,
Mike
