Engine and Bottom End / Melting ground straps. Still!
« on: January 29, 2023, 08:56:28 PM »
Been fighting this issue awhile now.  The ground strap is melting off spark plugs.
Thought it was lean, put in richer jets/ needles and plug is dark chocolate. No grey specs
205 psi compression.  Running Sunoco 110 with 927 at 40:1
Put in all new 2001 cr ignition
Switched to a colder B9 plug

I thought the ignition swap fixed it.  But this past weekend, after 5-6 tanks of gas, quad wouldn’t start.  Pulled plug and found this.  >:(

How do you plug/ seal off the exhaust side?

Intake I presume a 1.5” pvc fitting goes on intake boot with a hose clamp

XC / 2023 TX4
« on: January 20, 2023, 11:47:56 AM »
Thought I would start a new thread for the new season.  First race of the season is this saturday.  The Vintage class seems to have gotten alot of peoples attention so I expect it to be one of the largest classes if everyone actually shows up.

forecast has been all over the place with temps and rain amounts.  Now it looks maybe just a light rain in the morning and temps around 50.  Its Texas so who knows what will happen.

The have been working on this course alot, supposed to be about a 5 mile loop.  One of the premier ranches for XC racing in the central TX area.

Awards ceremony for 2022 season will be Saturday evening.  Hopefully have some nice goodies for being #1!

Engine and Bottom End / Too much clutch cable free play. Fix?
« on: January 17, 2023, 08:32:04 PM »
Dumb question, can the thrust bearing get worn out to the point that you can’t adjust the clutch free play? The 2 nuts by the cylinder are all the way on end of cable.   Lever adjuster is all the way out too.     I was hoping putting in an 89 update would fix it, but it already has one.   New cable.

Engine and Bottom End / Who rebuilds crank? - where to buy?
« on: January 08, 2023, 06:45:21 PM »
Friend running a 380 lynx but he has short rod crank.  Needs to be long rod.  Who would you use to swap rods and rebuild the crank.  Or maybe somewhere to just buy a long rod crank?  I know hot rods ranks had a bad rep for awhile.

Engine and Bottom End / Neil Clutch mod update or changes?
« on: January 06, 2023, 11:53:12 AM »
before i spend $250 on OEM parts, are there any updates to the neil clutch mod from this closed thread?  On the second page there was discussion about different washers to use instead of the drain plug washers and using a different steel than the 400ex one.

Does anyone know a site to search dealer inventory of parts?  I recall a couple people mentioned searching dealerships to find if they had certain discontinued parts in their inventory.

Suspension and Chassis / XC rear tires
« on: November 22, 2022, 04:09:43 PM »
Any recommendations for a light weight XC tire?  I have been running 18" Razr MX, but they are just about bald now.   not sure I want to run 20".  Lots of jumps and tight turns that I like the feel of the 18s do better.

Suspension and Chassis / oem front fender bolts
« on: June 30, 2022, 04:40:31 PM »
Croats post about the oil cap reminded me of something.  Didnt the original OEM front fender to frame bolts have the adapter collar integral to the bolt and it couldnt be removed?
now the parts fische just has a seperate collar and bolt.

XC / Tx 4 racing
« on: April 25, 2022, 08:43:52 PM »
First race of our series was Saturday, on my 44 bday.  They have vintage and trike classes.   We had 6 Rs and a banshee.  Next race should have 3-4 more Rs that weren’t quite ready.
4 trikes, 2 atc Rs,  a Tri z, and a 250sx

Dave Moore was out there helping guys with tunes and stuff.   Had his sponsored rider out there on a new motor they are developing.  For some reason they didn’t put a desert tank on and had to stop for fuel.  At which I passed his rider  for the lead

Dave came over to congratulate me and tell me “you rode the shot out of that R!”

4 ~six mile loops in under a hour.  I had some of the fastest lap times of all classes besides the pros

Engine and Bottom End / Cr stator adjustment on mounting plate?
« on: March 28, 2022, 10:58:33 PM »
Got this ignition several years back and finally getting around to installing.  Previous owner removed the lower bolt “button” , or I’ve heard it called a cap too, so that stator can move ~10-15 degrees. There was a line scratched on the stator and these pics are with that line, lined up with the mark on the adapter plate.  Does this look right?
Looking at the crank end, it looks like previous owner had the stator turned as far clockwise as it would go, another 1-2 degrees than in these pics.

Engine and Bottom End / flywheel threads F'd, washer stuck
« on: March 04, 2022, 08:55:02 AM »
I posted on FB, but maybe someone here has a bright idea before I used a 3 jaw puller to get my flywheel off.  The threads are completely corroded, can only get the flywheel puller on about a thread and a half.  there are bubbles of rust on the threads around 1/16-1/8" in size.

Will a 3 jaw puller even work?

also seems the washer is stuck on the flywheel.  Do I have to get the washer off first?
