Engine and Bottom End / What compression ratios can use pump V/race

2 oz raises it 5 points on which scale?  The motored method or the research method?  I am very skeptical of such advertisements based upon my past experience. The motored method is the one that really means anything.

My experience over the last 40 years on octane booster has not been good.  Any of the old boosters that raised the octane 5 to 10 points or even close to to what they advertise are now illegal and you needed to ware a Hazmat suit while handling them.  They say that handling these chemicals can cause dain bramage.:cocksure:

Those old boosters that half way worked cost as much to treat a gallon of fuel as it did to just buy race fuel.  If high octane race fuel could be made from pump fuel by adding a few ounces of the booster the race gas manufactures would also be doing it.

It is always better to use fuel that is a few octane points higher that what the engine needs because you may not always get 91 octane as graded or rated by your engine when hot and under full load, even though it is advertised as 91 octane.  I have challenged the fuel quality at .a particular gas station and days later the state will come to the station a take a sample and take it to a test lab and test it. The octane rating has always tested higher that what is posted using (R+M)/2 method.   I think that the(R+M)/2 method of rating is used so that the fuel will meet  or exceed what is advertised.

The problem with the (R+M)/2 method is R means the research test method and the M means the Motored test method.  An engine under full load agrees more with the motored method and not the research method when determining the fuels level of detonation resistance.

Example of:  octane rating = (R+M)/2 = 90

Let R=95
     M=85
                     octane is 90

Now let:
    R=85
    M=95
                    octane is 90

Both of the above test will meet the octane rating of 90 but when M= 85 you will have severe detonation problems because your engine thinks it is 85 octane.  When M=95 your fuel will behave in your engine (resist detonation) like you are running 95 octane fuel.

I agree with what your saying but are you sure of the formula?... the formula is R+M/2 isn't just the  the M/2  not the whole ( R+M) /2

Found another one from a different supplier :)

http://www.regulatorrectifier.com/catalog/1986-1988-Honda-TRX250R-Stator-Wiring-Harness

Looks really nice
that's a nice part.....

I know the materials Mike (hontrx265r) is using and they are all top quality, along with he is making a custom for LED lighting with a capacitor or I believe a battery option,

for a race cut you don't need much and I would take the one Langbolt shows, but for custom configurations  Mikes are a REAL nice harness

XC / Tires
« on: December 06, 2014, 01:28:46 PM »
tires are as much a personal choice as oil type , stroke or not to stroke, types of plastic and colors to run or not run race fuel...a lot comes down to your preference and conditions of where and what and how you ride..these things you need to figure out to find what is your best tire, and size

I personally like the sizes you have mentioned, and I like holeshot GNCC tires, but hate the rest of the holeshot line up for XC.
I don't like razors I think they are too heavy, but with heavy comes a strong sturdy long lasting tire...

I like light rims (yes that bend) and a light soft tire that wears ..but when a tire is wearing down that means its biting in,

I've had tires that would last forever(relators) super strong and super heavy, but didn't get traction to save my life..
tires are a compromise in what YOU want, just know that a long lasting tire as a rule doesn't have the same traction as one that wears down quicker, and a heavy tire adds rotating mass..so you have to ask yourself what exactly you are looking for in a tire,

because as far as I know the perfect tire doesn't exists, one that is light, gets great traction in all conditions, and lasts a long time, and of course isn't expensive,...lol

Lounge / ADHD meds for your kids???
« on: December 05, 2014, 09:43:53 PM »
don't do it .it seams that the first choice with the schools now...make the teachers put the time in to do there job!!!

but that also means you have to put more time into your child also..
it will take more work on your part also, don't take short cuts with you kids,

they told me my son needed them also, no he didn't!!!! he just needed more help then other kids, so I gave him the help, and he turned out just fine without taking the shortcut.

if you cant tell Im very against it in most cases ...only a select few absolutely need these drugs... and from the sound of your son is one that just needs guidance and help and support not drugs

Lounge / They are after Pismo Shutdown again....
« on: November 22, 2014, 08:31:37 AM »
Its sad to see any closings, once closed they will never be open again,
closings happen for many reasons, not just EPA...the threat of lawsuits, the risk of fires, people not respecting the resources by littering or riding outside of boundaries, reckless driving without safety gear(possible lawsuits), threating local wildlife breading ....the list goes on and on

but what is even more sad, is all off-road users REFUSE to unite. we cant even unite our 250r community..then we hate 2 strokes banshees, then we both hate four strokes, not to mention bikes hate all of us, and the trophy trucks are nothing but completely annoyed by anyone else..
unless things like these drastically change and we learn to tolerate our differences, the future of off-roading is not looking good, without numbers we are nothing

Ignition / rickey stator flywheel

Personally, I wouldn't go with a lighter flywheel. Most people say stay away from the Ricky Stator brand of electrical components.

Stick to OEM 250R or go to the CR250 ignitions

Ricky stator isn't that bad for stators if you cant find decent OEM they are the next best after oem, I don't like there wiring harness but there stators are decent quality
