So I'm thinking about getting a set of hiper wheels. Looks like can still get the cf1's through atv galaxy. Hiper's site doesn't list them anymore. So my question would be what is the benefits of the tech 3's over the cf1's
-
The tech3’s carry a longer warranty and are better suited for mx/gncc I have read. I have also read of oblonged mounting holes on the tech3. They are suppose to be stronger though.
-
The Tech 3's have a billet center, the portion that mounts to the hub. CF1 is straight carbon fiber, with metal inserts where the holes are.
I have dual bead-lock Tech 3 rears that have been phenomenal. They still have the 5lbs of pressure in them that I originally filled them up with 3 years ago.
I have fought tooth and nail with one of my CF1 fronts almost since the day I bought them. One leaks between the tire and the bead-lock ring. I just ordered new rings so we'll see if that fixes the problem. Also possible the cheap GBC tires I use have an imperfection that's causing the leak. I'll find out this weekend.
You can see the diffrence here:

I really hope I don’t have issues with my cf1’s. Both are such a good looking wheel.
Tbone how’d you get that dent in your pipe?

same story here. I have 5 sets of hipers and randomly 2 wheels out of them leak like a sob

It was like that when I bought it. I assume it's from someone's foot slipping off the kicker.
I would go with the Tech 3 on every corner if I had to do it again
Also: Highland Tire in PA has the best prices on Hipers, hands down.

Yea, seems like the Tech3's are a superior wheel. Can't really see a draw back from what I've read.
With that said, my CF1's don't leak a bit and none of the rivnuts have spun out.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ya I was planning on giving Matt a call

I've never pursued Hiper's but curious if you want these for a sand setup Gene? And if so, why?
-
I like the look of them Ryan. I was also thinking about maybe omf beadlocks
-
I do realize the extra rotating weight kills power. But my weight kills more
-
I liked the look of mine. Heavy and two of them randomly leaked. They hold their value pretty good to I sold them for a good price.

They are heavier than aluminum beadlocks? Guess I always assumed the point of them was to be lighter.

Same here, but I'd prefer to not add any extra unneeded weight. Though they look sweet!
-
they are not worth the price in my opinion. DWT aluminum beadlocks are just fine.
-
I would agree as far as functionality, but when it's an R you're chroming and polishing stuff for no reason whatsoever besides looks haha. So if you like the way they look I'd say they're worth it.
My opinion might be biased currently while I ride around on 4 warped aluminum wheels lol.
-
I have some CF1's. No problems
-
Dwt g2 beadlocks are more $$ than what i paid for my cf1. I got a rear pair. Haven’t used them yet. I like the look and the carbon will stay black no matter how blasted they get in the dunes. I also like the 10x9 hiper offers. Most only offer 10x8. I’m not too worried about the weight cuz I don’t drag race much. At Glamis, you can be several miles from camp. As much as 25. Beadlock gives some insurance to make it back to camp. I got one mounted on a new SS2. Now I need to find another matching tire. My 10” .125” and .160” dwt’s are all bent so some extra strength will be nice too.
-
Don't see brand new skate 2's very often anymore. Finding a new left tire to match might be tough.
-
Sure will. I’m just gonna pick the best one I’ve got. Oregon tree roots have not been kind to my paddles. Forgot to mention, the hipers are going on my 450R which is a heavy pig anyway.
-
I haven't heard of leaky aluminum bead-locks, but I have heard of constantly getting flat spots. Which is something that the Hipers definitely don't do.
I installed the new bead-lock rings on my Hipers last night, we'll see if they held their air when I get home from work.
