First time on this site. Seems to be a greater information exchange than on other site(s) I have a 86 250R It's punched .080 " supposedly ported for mid top end. Have DRS on new 450R front shocks, 450R front brakes. Look forward to talking to some of you in the future Added up all the OEM parts for the front shocks and it came to 1200 $ per shock. Got a great deal. brand new 2007 take offs for 375. DRS and serviced for 300 $ and they work great

Engine and Bottom End / stator
« on: March 10, 2016, 09:07:37 PM »
Howdy. Well I changed out my stator and it runs great. Broke my damn clutch lever tilting it up on its side to work on it. It's useable so I took it for a test ride. Pretty wet & muddy out there. Now I have spark when I hand crank it which I didn't have before. And it would not start in the cold. But now it kicks back something fierce. it's a real challenge to start hot. Before I could start it sitting down. Not any more man. I wish I could do something about the kick back but I don't think their is. Is there ? Switch it to stop and switch it to run right at the right time maybe. It's really annoying Any ideas ?

Engine and Bottom End / poor ignition
« on: March 04, 2016, 08:17:34 PM »
Howdy everyone. I have an ignition problem. My wheeler won't start when it gets cold. It runs great it has a new carb that has been jetted. And the jetting is correct. It fires right up when it's 60 degrees out when it gets around 25 degrees it wont start. I was thinking my stator or something getting weak. I noticed that it starts real hard if I try to start it with the headlight on It's a 86 trx 250R.  I scoped the ignition system when the very first time I ever started it and it took quite a high velocity on the kickstart lever to get any readings. It just seemed that it was a little too much speed required to get anything out of it. Cant even see the spark on the plug when you check. But it's there, it runs. I am not very familiar with this ignition system.
don't know of any of its idiosyncrasies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

« on: December 23, 2014, 03:22:17 PM »
Hey guys Meathead here. I used to race  mx on a 2 wheeler. Swore I would never ride a 3 wheeler. Then I got one I was hooked Bought my first ATC
250R Best machine I've ever had. Now I'm building a R quad. My 1st one.
Never even hardly rode a quad before. So I'm pretty new at this. I've been a mechanic most of my life so I have the knowledge and the tools to take on a project like this. With a little help from you all I ought to get it done by summer. This is a pretty excellent site from what I see
