August 11th-14th for all interested!!!! Trying to organize a gathering of the R's at Winchester bay. Let's put together a weekend that will make lasting memories. I will be there and so will a few of the late night gang. See you in Winchester bay! Thanks, Loren

It's going to be quite a site seeing more than 2 or 3 R's running around together at winchester. Haven't seen that at any of the Oregon dunes since the early/mid 90's.

Way early I know but where are you all staying? Are we all meeting up at a certain spot? I won't be able to camp but I can come down for a day. I was thinking of one of the parking lots.

I seen a couple trx's and an atc R @ sandlakes last weekend. They looked nice from across the sand but was helping a kid with us get his yfz back to camp.
His shift shaft came apart wanted to pull out the shift lever side.
I'll try and make it down to this. Will have to being a banshee guy or yfz guy with me though. Unless one of them buys the other R I have from me. We'll see

I wanted to bring both R's but it's looking more like it'll be one R & a CR. Technically though a CR counts as an R because it's just as badass.

I have site 33 in half-moon bay campground. My buddy with his green and white 89 will be at the day use lot, but then mostly staying with me and my woman, for the day. I'll have to look on the map and try and find out where site 53, is on the sand Norm! And we'll ride out to find you! Can't wait

Basically just head south from the parking lot. Keep riding until you see a gray crew cab Chevy Silverado next to a Raptor 5th wheel toy hauler and a big bearded badass dude holding a beer wearing a straw hat. Lmao!

I booked a site at Discovery Point. One or two friends from Arizona are probably going to fly up and come out with me. I've got 3 bikes so let's hope nothing breaks :). Although right now i am planning on tent camping I'm trying to get more info on options if we want to camp in the dunes themselves. A few questions:
1) From reading websites it says that alcohol is prohibited in the dunes, including camping areas. Is that really true or enforced? The reason I ask is The Norm said he's camping there and will be, "...the guy holding a beer..." and I thought I'd ask.
2) Are there porta-potty's in the dunes? I saw that if I was dune camping I'm supposed to bring a portable toilet - not a big deal if you are in an RV but we'd be tent camping which is a bit more challenging.
3) Anybody ever use a trailer rental company for here that they like? Depending on price, might be interested in a place that delivers and sets up trailers. I used to do this in CA and assume something similar may exist here.
Any and all advice/feedback on the above (or anything else) is welcome. I've never been here before but I've spent a lot of time in the sand (Glamis) so I'm pumped for this!

This will be my first time riding Oregon in coming up from Nevada i to spent a lot of years riding dumont dunes I'm sure it's the same just don't act like a tard and don't draw attention I'm sure it'll be ok

Drinking is allowed I think just in camp spots not out in the dunes I believe. Like discovery point etc.. to many ppl drink throughout the day, then get hurt. No porta johns in the dunes themselves, just at staging areas.
You might want reconsider camping out in the sand with a tent. Winchester is known to be "windy" and it's miserable camping in high wind.
As far as the trailer rentals, there is Luv2camp in reedsport and I think it was $650 for a week when I checked into it.

Brian, I have sand camped in the Winchester dunes a lot over the years and have gone from tent camping to toy hauler camping. In the early years you weren't required to bring a portable toilet (as far as I know) Now days it is a requirement and one I don't totally disagree with. Drinking in the dunes is prohibited and can be enforced. I have never been checked or had any issues while enjoying a tasty beer. I believe it is because I do not get drunk and go do something stupid (anymore lol) as I have a young impressionable son that wants to be just like dad. If you are a problem law enforcement will find you. If you were to stop by my camp it is garunteed that I will offer you a beer and a chair. Just as long as we enjoy ourselves in a responsible manner we will not have any trouble. Discovery point and halfmoon bay are two options if you don't have a portable toilet. If you need anything else at all pm me your number and I can text you or call. Thanks Loren
P.S.
A bucket with a toilet seat is a portable toilet in my opinion! Just put a garbage bag in the bucket lol

That would be great. My friends and I would like to meet up with other attendees - it's the whole reason we are coming this weekend. I will leave the time/place to those more familiar with the dunes here.

I think the last parking lot would be a great place to meet. Right out front is a huge flat area where we can assemble. I think Saturday or Sunday in the afternoon would be best. We can do a group ride and see all the best places at Winchester.

I'm back on track to bring both R's. Josh was going to bring an engine with him on the plane from Hawaii to put in my wife's R but a complete engine popped up last week on the local craigslist for a smokin deal. Hoping to have both bikes running with new top ends by this weekend. See you all there...

Finally got front end to cooperate. I am going woo-hoo! Thank you Kevin and Jared for putting up with all my annoying texts and offering help! Appreciate it big time. I just gotta figure out which intake I'm gonna use and bleed front brakes, but it's going either way. I'll be in site 33 of half-moon bay.

Great weekend. Some really nice 250r's came out, met some good people and finally put faces to the names. I hope this turns into an annual event. I'm in.

Keep up the tradition and I am sure it will grow. Some schools started already can put a damper on on the turn out.

Had a great time with some great people & it was cool finally getting to meet Josh & Jeremy in person. Josh had 2 camera's that he mounted to my wife's R in a few different places & he got some really cool video, can't wait to see them... Thanks for letting me ride your sphinx Jeremy, I'm still down for trading you the engine in my wife's R for your sphinx so you can build a stock R for your son.lol... Can't wait for next year!

Was great meeting you all. This trip was way more fun then i was expecting. It was really cool to hang out with guys that have the same interest as myself. I found it interesting that no matter what your R was everyone wanted to take a look and talk about it. Stock, aftermarket frame, 431, 363, 310, 250, 3 wheels, hybrid, 1/2" spacer top and bottom, it was all cool and all did more socializing then riding LoL!
Really wanted to say thanks to Kevin! He made it possible for me to ride with you all. Also thanks to all the wives. Was nice speaking with them. Great bunch of ladies. Cant forget Tony! He was kind enough to give me and Kevin a tour of his shop. Talk about a kid in a candy store!
Everyone was such a class act. Im defiantly looking forward to next year!

We're planning on getting to Winchester a few days earlier next year so we can go check out different things and go to the beach

Darren, I have a ton of work to do on my truck, and R so I feel your pain. Speaking from experience, I can tell you that if you block out everyone and everything in your life you can assemble a R in two solid days. Get a case of pbr and lock yourself in the garage. Once you are finished and step out of the garage the sun will be shining and you will feel like a new man lol

Video doesn't do justice to how big this dune really is either. Glad you saved it so easily Josh.
