Title: site feature not working
Post by: croat1 on January 24, 2018, 01:08:42 AM
@havinnoj, a site member mentioned that the "show unread posts since your last visit" feature  isn't working for him.  Any input on this?

side note...It does work for me on both my Iphone and desktop

thanks

Joe

Ya it has never worked.  Most of the reason I dont come here any more because theres no way to see really whats going on unless i go into each subforum manually.   Tried it on google/firefox, and IE.  When i click it, it pops up the window like it should, but no threads are displayed.   This goes for my work computer and my home computer.

Click the profile button then the forum profile then modify profile and then notification I think you might be able to change it in there

There is nothing there for that.  Its something to do with recent posts.  My profile cant see them.

That function works for me also. The problem is, after you view the post, it's gone. We need the format like the old site. The new posts need to be seen for your entire session. Just saying, sometimes new isn't better.

This feature doesn't work correctly for me either.

It should be "show recent threads", or something along those lines and list every active thread in chronological order from the time of the most recent post.

I had trouble with that (posts since last visit) button not working for me sometimes also.

On the bottom of the home page there is a ' forum stats'  section, which has a "view most recent posts on the forum" button, and between the two of those you can see any recent activity  :D

All thanks for your input.  The inability to see "new posts" via the links under your avatar seem to be limited to certain members.  IF you are one of those members, please post the following information so we can troubleshoot:
- Type of device
- Browser
- Browser version

For those that don't see any posts when they click "Show unread posts since last visit" - what happens when you click the link on that page titled "No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics."  <-- Note that only the underlined portion is clickable.  This should take you to a FULL list of forum topics sorted by last reply.

I'd love to take credit for this but nothing has been changed here.  So while I like hearing this, I'll have to look into this more lol.

Not working again.  This post did not show up.   It showed no new posts.

Ok good (from the troubleshooting perspective).  Might be specific to Modzilla Firefox.  I’m going to explore adding a link that shows all posts by most recent post date.

Both links are working for me on both browsers...at the moment

Win7
Chrome Version 64.0.3282.167 (Official Build) (32-bit)
Firefox 52.6.0

IMO.....the "show unread posts since last visit" and " Show new replies to your posts should be changed to one link. Something like "Show Active Topics", with the active topics listed in order of their most recent update.

I'm in agreement to an extent - trying to get the "show unread posts" to show active topics.  "Show new replies" will stay the same so users can easily see threads they have created and any new replies.  You'd think this would be easy to change. Been playing with a couple of options but nothing that I want to implement, @Burns363R - hopefully soon.

Sounds good. Let me know if you need any help troubleshooting/testing

the alternate "click here for posts" when nothing comes up for unread posts, clearly does not have all the unread post in it.  I guess I will use my phone for new threads instead of the PC

Its working on my home computer, but not at work.   It does occasionally work at work though.

Hmmm.  I'm stating the obvious but the "show unread posts since last visit" doesn't just show unread posts - it shows only the unread posts since your last visit.  I'm wondering if that may be part of the reason why you mention it occasionally works.  In the interim I'm looking at how to add another web link that just shows all active topics, sorted by last reply.

Love the idea of Active Topics. Log out and return, there still visable. It works great on other forums.

@Burns363R and all - I've added a link called "Active Topics" which directs to "All Unread Topics" - note that threads WILL disappear from this list as you read them.  I'm trying to find an internal link that lists all topic by date of reply for this button.  But moving in the right direction.

IT WORKS. Hell yeah.

If you can add the link for the "all topics by date of reply", that would be a bonus too.

Thanks OJ

Exactly. That’s the end goal. Working on it now but got to get creative since I can’t find anything that endogenously builds this link.  Closest we have out of the box is action=recent which lists by reply, rather than thread.

nope, it doesnt shot posts at all.   I dont come on here much anymore if you notice and its for this one reason.  Unless there is no new topics from the few times every month i pop on, then something is wrong.  I would love to be a more involved member, but currently i cant see whats really going on unless i dive into each sub forum manually and read each thread.......

Ya the active topics was just showing my unread post. Once I marked them all read nothing shows up now

Tell me why the post must disappear once read? Maybe I want to go back a read again or now post in that thread.

I wish you weren't having these difficulties Kyle and I'm unsure what the culprit really is for you.  Please navigate to the forum index and scroll all the way to the BOTTOM - I've added a list of "Active Topics" there for the time being.  Will explore getting that info on it's own URL.  Also added "Recent Posts" at top menu bar for users that prefer individual post content.  Please let me know if you can see those in your browsers and as I try to nail down the best solution going forward.

Yes - that is the expected behavior of that link (for time being).

Because, like stated earlier in this thread, while I it directs to "All Unread Topics" - note that threads WILL disappear from this list as you read them.  I'm trying to find an internal link that lists all topic by date of reply for this button.

Currently it seems to be working.  But i also think the list at the bottom of the page does the job.  At least I can keep up on whats going on.  Thanks guys.

Thanks for your patience Kyle.  I'm working to get that list parsed into it's own URL so we can see it with a single click rather than scrolling to the bottom.  I'll tag you in an update when I get that done.

All / @Burns363R - added an updated URL to the "Recent Topics" - that should give everyone an easy way to see the most recent activity on the forum.  Will also leave the list of active topics at the bottom of the forum index.

new topics etc still not working, but I see you added the "recent topics " towards the bottom and that seems to hold about 25 recent topics going back to April 25.  Improvement!

For troubleshooting, what do you mean "new topics" - Unread Topics?  When you say it's not working, what are you experiencing?

Yes Recent Topics are listed at the bottom of the Forum Index page AND a direct link up at the top of the page (next to Unread Topics).

its the same issue i have had for months.  the links next to my avatar - show unread posts since your last visit - always brings up a message that no unread topics found
the second link next to avatar - show new replies to your posts - has posts from 2017

the links below my avatar "unread topics"  and "recent topics" seem to be working now

Seems like some browsers or browser settings have this issue.  If you let me know what browser and device you're using I can review further.

Yes these were implemented for those users that had problems with the above links.
