RACE REPORT!
Yesterday was the GBC 10 Hour Heartland Challenge. This is the 5th year I have competed in the Challenge. In the prior 4 years my team mate Bubba Hicks and I have podiumed every single time, even managed to win one in the A class. Things changed this year with Bubba still on the mend from a bad crash. So needless to say it left me trying to figure out what I wanted to do. About 2 weeks ago I decided it was time to try out the Iron Man class, 1 man/1 machine/ 10 hours of racing.
I started the race out very slow trying to set a sustainable pace that I could carry to the end of the day. I think I was around 9th place on the first lap out of the 16 riders in the Iron Man class. Around the 3 hour mark I had worked up to 4th place but ran into an issue with my handle bars. I had to go back to the pits to get them fixed and lost the lap I was on and had to restart it basically. From there I was able to put my head down and make my slow charge forward. I tried to keep a solid pace all race that left me with enough energy to make a battle for 1st place at the end of the night. Around the 7-8 hour mark I had found myself in 2nd place and working on the lead that 1st place had built up, He was around 15 min ahead at that point. I managed to keep working his lead down until with about 1 hour to go, I passed through the checkpoint and it showed me in first place. I was so surprised to see that #1 by my name, I felt re energized and ready to push to the end. That momentum carried me to the end of the night and put me on the top spot of the podium.

BTW I never got off the bike. All pit stops where gas and go

Ya if i do it again next year. I will do it on the 250r. But I will be taming my 370 down a lot haha. i dont think i could hang on to it for 10 hours the way it is now.

Do you run a flywheel weight with your CR ignition. Maybe that will help tame it a bit.
-
I do. Its just to much HP for that much racing. 2 hour race, no issues, its a beast. But arm/hand fatigue is a real issue when you ride for 10 hours and nearly 200 miles without ever getting off the machine. Im already talking to Arlan about a dome that will just take the motor down to do a Iron Man next year. Im not sure thats what Im doing yet. But if I do Iron Man again, it will be on my 250R.
-
Will fuel consumption be an issue with the 370 vs the 450?
-
Na just fuel more often is all.
-
Sweet! So awesome to see an R / you on the podium. Congats again Kyle!
-
I was on my 450r. But maybe next year the 250R will make the run for IRON MAN!

-
Congratulations Kyle!!!!

-
kyle, did arlen do your 450?
-
Yup he did the head. I have never liked the way it was before. Never made very good power. Arlan spent alot of time fixing the porting that someone else did.
-
Those are killer pictures! Can't wait to watch the videos
Are those Holeshot GNCC or HD? How do you like them? Last set of them I had wore out quick. Think they'd be good on the R as well?
-
Holeshot GNCC I love them actually. Very good bite. I havent wore a set out. But i have had a hole in 1 front and 1 rear.
-
would cooling be a concern on the 250r in a race like this?
-
not as long as teh radiator doesnt get packed with mud. 2 hours shouldnt be any different than 10 hours
