Anyways guys, welcome to my new build thread. The jist is this - my 443 Puma needed (wanted) a new frame. So here we are. A lot going on right now - parts being fabbed, others in polish and chrome, and I’m headed out of country for a week soon. My goal is to get this built by end of April.

I know what it is. But I'll let him tell everyone. He needs to put up some update pics.

It's a Laeger. Most of you have seen it before I'm sure. Anyone guess where this came from?
Not much progress to post, Pete is working on fabbing up new silencer setup using Cascade CSFX parts. Waiting on chrome, swingarm design and build, shocks.

What kind of swingarm?

What kind of swingarm?
Tim @ Stellar Machine and Performance is currently coming up with design options. Going +5 over 88/89 length. Probably round tube, maybe arched, maybe ladder - all depends on how the linkage mount sits.
-
Frame didn’t have lower chain slider bung so Pete added one. Explored adding a roller but no room. Here is the bung tacked up.

Throwing some ti hardware on this build

Any updates

Any updates
Not really. Been acquiring a few parts, waiting on a swingarm to be built, and while I finally got back all my chrome today, unfortuantely the lower Pro-Trax A-arms will need to be rechromed. Will put the Roll front end on in the meantime as needed.

Doing some test fitting over the weekend

This box showed up today while I'm out of town :o ;D

Getting a good drool factor going
-
Rear axis for the CR500 link
-
Rough sketch of the swingarm, will probably have less arch than this.
-
axis is the way to go.
what is your plans for frame color?

Leaving it red for the season. Will probably tear down for color change in the winter.
-
Swinger is done (pics prior to slider bung), will have to wait for chrome.
-
That definitely wasn't cheap. There is a lot of crying
-
That's some beautiful fab work right there. Looks awesome
-
OJ, that swinger looks awesome. is that titanium?
-
Thanks guys. Swinger is not titanium, it’s raw. I don’t have time to chrome it until the winter rebuild most likely. So what options should I consider in the meantime? Clear powder? Chrome-look powder? Red powder? Spray clear coat?
-
I would just use some spray clear coat. Make it easier to remove to do what you want later
-
Thanks Gene
-
Good idea Gene... Duplicolor makes a clear coat for car wheels that works pretty good, used it on some metal bench legs & its been hit pretty good with a vacuum many times & hasn't chipped yet. Also painted my swinger with duplicolor aluminum engine paint 10 years ago & it still looks as good as it did when i painted it. Can't go wrong with duplicolor.

Thanks Kevin. I’ll see if I can find some and paint it up!

Why did you take the cascade silencer off

Great. Threw more gear at it (currently 14-38) and will probably throw a little more at it still. Pulls hard, love the protrax setup, the rear seems really nice too but didn't hit it 100% since wasn't running front brakes this session.
-
Why did you take the cascade silencer off
I plan to, just not finished yet - stinger needs to be fully welded up and then chromed.
-
Beautiful build!
-
Saw this in person today. I wish I could afford to cry once like that.

Thanks Gene. I should change the title of this thread so I don't have to think about what that crying actually cost me lol
-
I wouldn't cry much now. The smile factor when you ride it. Out weighs it
-
A sweet ass 250r is like having a beard. It makes you more of a man and women will want you much more. So they must be tears of joy lol
-
Quick pics as-is for the rest of the season.
-
Man that thing looks TOUGH! Very over the top. I like it.
Any videos of it? I would love to hear that Puma.
-
Also, what case saver is that??
-
It's a UPP case saver. They are a great way to go. They just take a little time to make them fit nice

Thank you sir. No videos of it, will have to get some on the next outing.
-
Also, what case saver is that??
Like Gene mentioned, it's a UPP case saver. It's a beefy piece but needs a bit of work to get fitment right (http://uppracing.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=75)

Thanks. Is that a 911 GTS in the first post?

Thanks. Is that a 911 GTS in the first post?
Yes, a 4 GTS

Man I love those orange plastics for a duner. Once you get all the colors how you like them, and get some rad shrouds that thing will be perfect. Badass

Thanks Clay. The paint is 10-12 years old and chipped, cracked in a few places. Will do the colorscheme this winter - may stick to the same paint colors on the plastic and update the frame to work with it. And agreed on the rad shrouds, have a few OMF just haven't got them on. Or may go carbon shrouds to match the intake.
-
I have been thinking about CF shrouds myself. I think I might try to wrap my shrouds now with some CF looking vinyl
-
Riding season is over and getting ready to tear this guy apart and finish up the color scheme and a few other things. I'll probably keep this orange painted set (with some touch up work) - what are your guys thoughts on frame color?
-
Black goes good with orange
-
Green would look good with that orange if you like green.
-
Go ahead and get that frame chromed out 8)

Did you ever see this plastic on the OEM frame that was a lime-gold? It looked cool some times, other times not so much. But good option to explore.

Haha maybe the subframe but needs some color!
-
Any other colors going on? Maybe a subtle color frame such as black or gunmetal but with a bunch of orange flake or metallic in the mix. I bet that would pop nicely.
-
How about white and orange for a Creamsicle look
-
do a silvervein type with the colors you like.
-
Bike is now completely apart. Next steps are to strip powder and decide on color.
Think I’m going with this color on the frame.

Reminds me of GM’s Sunset Orange Metallic. Very nice choice.

Any updates on the freshening up

Yes though no worthy pics right now. Will update when they're ready.
Chassis was stripped and since it uses 450R footpegs, a little fab work was needed to give clearance for the CR500 Linkage bolt. Chassis is now being blasted, after that will go to the painter. Dan Swan from Splat Designs https://www.splat-designs.com/ is going to touch up the orange plastics and then paint the frame.
Swingarm was sent back to Stellar to clearance the pivot tube, that's complete and now waiting to get it back. Hoping to get that chromed in time.
Front shocks were sent out to @Eschonda for his assessment and likely rebuild/revalve/respring (or some flavor of that). Last year I had them rebuilt/revalved/resprung last season but I couldn't get them where I liked them. While a very reputable shop did the work, they're back East, and I'm not sure that was the best choice for how I only ride dunes. Anyways, Schmidty has those now and looking forward to getting them dialed in.
Other than that, just need to order a bit of hardware and reassemble.
-
Frame is painted. Had a little mixup with the color. I had wanted Tangerine over Orion Silver base but painter matched the Tangerine on my plastic which was over Sunset Pearl instead of Orion Silver. Probably going to run this combo this year and can always change again in the future.
-
I can't tell which orange looks better. They both look nice. But ya they definitely don't match
-
Swingarm came back from chrome. Used a local shop but had Cascade / Top Dog polish/prep it. Happy with the results.
-
Making progress.
