So getting this started. 3rd week in August. Let's get more out there this year.
https://www.facebook.com/events/1238097849715267/
Thanks
Gene
-
Sorry Gene, I meant to make a thread a few weeks ago.... I am going to set the dates again at the 3rd weekend in August. That will be August 14th-17th. Hopefully more people can make it!
-
Can’t wait!!!!
Joe
-
Shoot I better start putting Joe's R back together since I only have 9 months to do it!
-
Oh come on Kevin! I better come down and drink your beer and coach you while you work lol
-
Oh come on Kevin! I better come down and drink your beer and coach you while you work lol
this sounds like a good plan Loren. I can come and supervise the both of you
-
Everything will be dialed.
-
Probably not looking good for me I have my sisters wedding to go to in Michigan on sept 5th
-
Shoot I better start putting Joe's R back together since I only have 9 months to do it!
It's like making a baby lol
-
That's right, it's gotta come together slowly & methodically.
-
14-17 is good. I'll update the facebook page.
Kevin I still have to tear mine down & rebuild it so you're already ahead of me haha
-
What do we want to see different than last year?
Personally I’d love to stay a couple days and camp on the sand.
-
I'm planning to snag roughly the same area. The spot our neighbors had was more protected from the wind so that would be my first choice
-
The group bbq was cool so lets do that again, but maybe do a potluck? Kevin has a radar gun so we could do some top speed runs. Wheelie contest would be cool for a laugh or two. We could also entice people with some hill drag racing. Maybe even a poker run with prizes. I could donate a set of pegs or a steering stem to the prize pot. Then last but not least a more organized and structured group ride. I also must make a demand! If you are there on the sand you will not go by my camp without stopping by to have a beer and a laugh. Not to solicit business. Eddie Sanders was a perfect example. He came by our camp and shared his wisdom, drank one of my beloved pbr's and then went on a ride with us common folk. Just my thoughts here.....
-
Who would be there at the dunes and not stop by? Umm...oops.
-
You never said you had PBR! Ha ha.
-
Just a general statement my friend! You guys are welcome to come hang out.
-
I’ll most likely be in Oregon a few days before the meet up and stay a day or 2 after.
Joe
-
How bout a swap meet? last time i came some guys were talking parts. i bought back some arms i sold from another member.
-
PBR and radar guns... I hope you lads have a badass time!
-
A swap meet could end with violence!
-
I really want to make it, but think August isn't enough wallet prep time lol

Ryan, plan is August 10th-19th. I’m really hoping to have a Laeger for the meet. Scheduling and $$$ are the issues. If not then 2021 for sure.

Haha well done Loren.

Just sitting here at work thinking about the 250R meet. We came up with some great idea's for activities a while ago. Did any of them spark an interest?
I know the meet is still several months away, but do we have any idea how many people are hoping to be there? Should we try to get a head count? I ask about numbers mostly for planning the meet and great bbq lunch.
Also it was a treat to see Mr. Sanders show up at our camp and eat with us let alone go for a ride! Does anyone friendly with Arlen want to press him to appear? I will work on Pete as I am sure others will. I rode once with @havvinoj and @traxman a few years ago and had a blast. I have not seen Damon since that day. I would love to see someone strong arm him into making an appearance. He is a pretty cool guy to shoot the poo with.
All things considered, I have had a fantastic experience every year this took place. I can't believe how far some people have traveled to attend. Hawaii, Ohio, California, Arizona, and Nevada to name a few. One crazy sob even flew into pdx and within a few hours purchased a 86 trx250r! That particular fella has a permanent seat at my table.
Through this event and this forum I have met people I will be friends with for life.
I can't wait to see what this year's event brings us!

^^^can we like that 2 times?

It's funny, 2 years ago we didn't have many "outside" replies and had a great showing. Last year we had a lot more replies from Facebook and such but lower turnout. As it gets closer, yes we'll try to get a firmer headcount.
Agreed on comments about Damon, Pete, and Eddie. Damon's kid generally plays baseball and he coaches so tough to get away. Pete - get a damn dog sitter - 6 month warning lol. Eddie - yeah we'll have to mention it to him when it's closer.
I love the group picture idea - meet @ 3rd parking lot, the lunch, and group ride (Gene I'll bring a spare watch for you this year :D). Anything else is just icing on the cake.
-
It would definitely be cool to get some of the old forum guys out there. I will also be letting Eddie know again. I cant wait. I should have 3 or 4 tagging along with me. Hope to work on a few others.
-
Sorry Ryan I was wrenching on the r and everybody left. So I thought I was to late. Oh well got to go on a good ride with Eddie.
-
I think my goal this year is to not work on my collection of Rs! Good luck with that!
-
i heared about this ride today on the other forum and can you tell me more about this ride like what all you do and do you all go out on rides like as a big mob or night rides. and someone mentioned trying to get arlan to go and right now he is rebuilding my motor so if you want to see if he wants to go i can ask.
-
We try to go on group rides every day. We usually meet at the last parking lot and go from there. Last year we had Eddie Sanders come out and ride. Arlen was unable to come, but he will be invited again this year. Several of us also tried to get Pete (the owner of Hybrid Engineering)to come. There is a group of us that all kind of camp together. Last year we camped in the overflow area and that worked out pretty well. Take a look at the threads of the last three years and you will see some pictures.
Loren
-
Oh yeah! Go introduce yourself Mr Eyeball lol
-
also i have to have a parent with me on every ride and my dad dosent have a 250r he rides a 525 outlaw ktm, so should he just kind of stalk or should he actually ride in the group. he was wondering and this is the first group ride either of us has gone to so we are just wondering if anybody would even care if it wasnt a R
-
Your dad wouldn't be the first 4 stroke rider tagging along. He may be the topic of several jokes lol. Everyone that is in or camp is very cool....
-
the count me in
-
Awesome!
-
My 250R is also a 4 stroke. 8) It might even make it this year, we'll just have to see. I appeared last year for lunch, but without my R
desertR
-
So jealous. I hope you all have a great turnout and a great time
-
I’ll be riding a 450R if I make it. 250R will go for back up. Mine just felt dead on the low end last year. Hard to climb the tree shots. Don’t have time or money to deal with it. Spent too much on the 4 poke. May be a CEO in my distant future.
-
will there be a night ride? night rides are my favorite
-
I'm sure you will be able to find a few people to go out at night. My boys and I do not ride at night. I don't have a way to run lights...
-
will there be a night ride? night rides are my favorite
I too enjoy riding at night but the only night riding I have done is in the woods. The dunes at Silverlake Michigan do not allow night riding. Silverlake is the closest dunes for me at 400 miles away. I’m in Ohio. Last year was the first year for me riding the Oregon dunes. As much as I think about riding the big dunes at night I think I wouldn’t do it with just a stock R headlight.
Welcome to Org!!
Joe
-
I used to love night riding at the dunes but getting older now I'd almost rather sit around a camp fire at night, enjoy some frosty beverages & BS with everyone.

Exactly!
-
@Jerry Hall would be great if you could make it
Joe

You ought to try and get some of the NW builders to join. Arlan and Eddie are up that way
-
Eddie came last year and let me tell you......that old man can ride lol
-
i can tell arlan i live about an hour from him and he is building my motor. if yall want.

Don’t really post on here much, I’m a lot more active on the .net website, but I check in here on new posts every once in awhile! Just wanted to say I’ll be there and I’m excited to see all your bad ass builds! I’ll be bringing my freshly done project. LED 370, ground up rebuild!
-
Awesome see you there
-
Nice bike 88. Definitely a more friendlier and less bias group here on org. I am sure you will meet some great people at the Winchester ride.
Best regards
-Jason

@88250rbuild can’t wait to see the quad
Going to be a good time!!!!

Nice looking R! Looking forward to seeing it in person. Is it a ESR or PRO-X cylinder?
-
ESR cylinder, motor rebuild done by LED, new 370 non pv, mx port, LED gears, led pipe
Definitely liking it so far.
How many people you guys usually get at these meets?

I don’t remember how many attended last year. I will say this it was one great time. Seeing bigger dunes and meeting our great ORG members. I know I’ll continue going for many more years.
Joe
-
First year turnout was in the teens, 2nd year was in the 20's & 3rd year was back down into the teens again. First year though there was more R's at the dunes than I've seen since the 90's but not many of them came around. Weather the turnout is big or small it's a blast regardless.

So it varies year by year. This is only the fourth time we are doing this also. The first year I think we had around 10-12. The second year was somewhere between 20-25. Last year I would say we had 10-15. It is very difficult to get everyone in the same place at the same time so we can get an accurate count and a group picture. We also struggle keeping everyone together on a group ride. It's kind of like herding cats lol.
Regardless we have always had a great time. I personally like putting a face to a name and enjoy sitting by the fire hearing everyone's story.
Loren
-
Super awesome to meet other R owners. My favorite part is BSing and checking out everyone else's R's. All the same yet all so different.
My family trips out when i tell them where i went and what i did. "you went where? to do what? with people you never meant before?!" Yes, and i had a great time with all of them:)
-
i wanted to go super bad but i have to go with a parent to be legal(even though i am over decible level, no spark arrester and will be wearing a super old helmet.) and they were confused why i wanted to go ride with a bunch of people i dont know, never seen them in my life and ride my pos with them. i did eventually convince them to let me go. it took months of convincing them to even let me keep my 250r with me paying for it the gas/oil and finding a way to keep it out of the shop taking up room.
-
Another day closer.....
-
I hate waiting!
-
HEAD COUNT!
i just checked flights and a round trip is super cheap. Like cheaper then in the past.
-
I will be there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Count me in too!!!
-
I’m in. Counting the days!!!
Joe
-
Maybe. Won’t know til it gets closer.
-
I'm going for sure.
-
I’m booking my flight this week. My only issue is deciding how long to stay. I for sure will be arriving on August 10th. Leaving ????

Stay for a while Joe. I'd like to show you Spinreel to Coos Bay riding area. And also Florence. I put together this map a while back, check out the other riding spots:

Even though sandlake is small & gets boring after an hour you gotta check out that place too as long as your here on a dune adventure. If you want to do some serious driving try out Christmas Valley in central Oregon as well while your at it.

Good idea Joe

So after some careful thought while sipping a tasty Rainier beer I decided that I wanted to not camp in the overflow area. I just booked sight #46 August 12th-17th. I am hoping that it is not as dusty as the overflow area. I didn't like getting dusted out by the neighbors.
#46 is also cheaper than the overflow area. $10 per night for 5 vehicles and 20 people vs $24 per night and $5 per extra vehicle.
#46 is also closer to the 3rd and last parking lot. Hopefully people will be able to locate me!
Loren
-
I cant remember what spot but we have a site at umpqua RV park the 12 - I forget what time we leave. We've camped there before and pretty quiet
-
Do you have to ride the road?
-
Nope direct sand access. Depending o your site you will have to ride on the gravel for a short time but most people dont k ow about the sand trail to the dunes and they just take the road it's only a 2 minute short ride to the dunes. With banshee hill right there
-
I can hear the ding of the light tower.
-
We have a cabin reserved at umpqua rv
-
They remodeled here I'm at umpqua rv right now and it is really nice better sand access and it's all asphalt wich kinda sucks but it is a really nice place now
-
Cool we will see how it goes
-
We have a cabin reserved at umpqua rv
Living the good life, I might need to do the same instead of the trailer/hotel thing.
-
We will see how it goes. They still had 1 cabin left last night

Who do you have with you Gene?
-
It will be tim and Justin again. Also Gabe and his son Miles
-
Is that the guy that was with you in 2018 on his son's 89? Does he have an R to?
-
It's getting close! Hopefully everyone is healthy and can make it!
-
Kevin yes gabe is the guy from 2018. No he traded off his 250r. So he will be on a 450.
-

Real close!!!! I’m ready to go!!!
Joe

I'm crying over here. I hope you all have a good time and everyone it's safe. Hope you guys post a lot of pictures

I'll bring my good camera and got a go-pro. For anyone interested, Costco has a pretty sweet package deal on GoPro Hero 8 Black's right now.
-
I'm so excited for the ride!! Just got to button up wiring and get a jet kit then off to the races.
-
14 days! Coopers R is still in pieces! Gavin's R is leaking oil from the drain plug!
I love a challenge!
-
Be very careful with that drain plug that's what started my motor rebuild. I broke the hole and that's why I had to split my cases so be very careful. Eventhough you can fix it yourself
-
I'm going to clean everything up and JB weld the drain plug in lol
-
Good idea just leave it till you get home
-
I have new cases ready to go
-
Oh wow thinking ahead that's already smarter than I am.lol
-
I have a complete top end in my trailer just in case my boys have trouble.
-
Any suggestions on a morning group ride? Then thoughts on the meet and greet lunch. Then of course the afternoon ride.
Joe
-
Yeah so my site #46 is very close to the 3rd parking lot. I think we should set up a group ride Saturday at 10am then come back by 1pm for the group lunch. I'm inviting everyone to stop by and have lunch! It's on Ryan's dime bwahahaha!
-
It we do go out from 10 to 1 I'm going to have to stop for gas 3 times lol

Yeah Joe that's the best one. There is also a couple little markets like Pelican Market in Winchester Bay (about 7-10 min from the sand).
-

Nice Kevin! I vote Saturday. Friday I think some of us are planning to get Joe to Spinreel for a 1/2 day at least to check out some other dunes!
-
I'll be there...in spirit. Throw a little sand for your homies

"Think" means there's a possibility, right? Lol. How can we entice you?!
-
Feeling guilty about ditching my family for a guys trip so I think we’re gonna take a trip later in October. In a couple years maybe I can bring my son. I just got him a blaster but he hasn’t learned to ride it yet. The other problem is our schools in California start earlier.
-
Let me know when you are going in October Michael! I would come join you for a weekend

No worries Michael, couldn't hurt to ask. Like Loren says, let us know when you come up in Oct and I'll try to block out the dates and join for some time on the sand.
-
I was thinking Utah in October. Sand hollow or coral pink. I thought it would rain too much in Winchester bay in October. ???

Awesome banner! i hope you all are having a good time
-
Well I had a ruff trip! We lost the top end on Coopers R and it seems that my clutch basket has blown apart.
All that aside I still had an amazing time. Great people and amazing R's. I'm already counting the days until the next R meet. I hope some of our distant friends that came in years past can make it back next time.

Ok guys here's the set (yes there are a TON more racing shots I'll make available in another album later on). I'm sharing them via Google Drive since they are high resolution & large file size. You should be able to send this link to other folks and they can access it too.

All that aside I still had an amazing time. Great people and amazing R's. I'm already counting the days until the next R meet. I hope some of our distant friends that came in years past can make it back next time.
Loren
We’re planning next year for sure just to much going on this year for us now that I don’t have kids in school anymore and their all working I’ll have more to time during the year to go see my family instead of during the summer
-
Looks like a great time,I hope to join the fun next year..
-
It would be great to have you guys there. Jeremy has been to Winchester before so his mind won't be blown away like yours will Steven. Winchester bay is by far the best dunes in Oregon.

I had an absolutely fantastic time at this year's meet up. Thanks to everyone that came out and participate. I will work with Ryan, Gene, Kevin, Joe, and who ever else is interested to get this more organized so we can make it better. Let's throw some idea's around and then in June/July we can nail down a solid action plan. Again thanks Loren

Looks fine, just run it lol. Thanks Loren, it was a great year, I think the proximity & visibility of site #46 really helped. I'd like to get the same spot next year. And axe the afternoon ride in lieu of a morning photo + ride and then midday lunch. Maybe do a 4pm racing session.

We could book site 46&47 next year. At $10 per night it's not a big hit cost wise.

Agreed. I went to look at tentative availability & dates (https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234196) but they release availability on 6 month rolling basis for individual sites. Also, I didn't realize individual sites were limited to 5 vehicles, that US Forest Service guy was super cool.
That being said, off-hand, I say we do it the same weekend - Aug 12- Aug 15 2021.

Self machining clutch basket. It's all in the sales pitch
Any of you go through Vancouver? I still have a bike up that way, but no wheels to get it to the sand dunes.
-
I live in Longview Washington which is roughly 45 minutes from Vancouver. I drive through there to get to the dunes.
-
Maybe I can hitch a ride sometime. I haven't been up that way in some time. Wonder how my bike is doing?
-
If I have room I could pick you up. Just wait by the side of the freeway lol

It’s 15-20 min north of me. You have a bike there but you live elsewhere? Give us the backstory! Would love to get you and the bike to the dunes next year..

Vancouver Native since birth. Moved to Texas at the end of '14. Left a few bikes up there with my family. Definitely miss the dunes... There is no sand in Texas. Closest is Little Sahara and that's about an 8 hour drive.
Sucks, I want to do things to the bike, but it is hard to do when it's so far away.

Ah okay, well nice to meet another fellow PNW native! I'm sure we could find a way to get the bike to the dunes!

I like your idea for the date Ryan. Be good to get it put together before first of the year

Love those guys. I haven't met the new team there. Been doing business with Arlan for over 20 years

At camp
-
Nice. That's a good turn out. Did most of you camp on the sand?
-
As far as I know my dad and i were the only ones who didnt
-
I think less than half the R's in attendance were actually out on the sand with us but the camp site was the meeting spot so it just looked like a 250r party.
-
Really, I didnt see anyone else in campsites. I must be blind lol

Good times
