Hey guys, glad I found this site. I’m new here and just bought an ‘86 that I’m hoping to bring to life.
-
Pretty much stock other than a fat boy and fmf silencer that will both be replaced.
-
Welcome and nice start for a build
-
Wow that's pretty darn nice already. What's your plans for it?
-
I owned an ‘89 in mid ‘90’s and had to sell for funds to get married. I’ve wanted a garage queen for several years so my plans with this one is dress as nice as possible with my budget. I have about 4 grand to put into it. I’m hoping to use the info on this site to help me. I’ll keep updating it as I have a few things to bolt on this week.
-
nice bike. plan wisely your $ 4000 will be gobbled up quick. ha ah ha ha ha ha welcome
-
Welcome to .ORG
Joe
-
welcome aboard. you can build something really nice with $4k. especially if you refurb alot of parts. it helps that you have something nice to start with. keep us posted on the progress
-
Really appreciate the welcome! I was on the FB page but some guy got butthurt Bc I lowballed an offer on some wheels. It was really weird. I received a “pm” stating the group did not need people like me “trying to devalue people’s items”.
I’m not sure about this place, but I work in America where things are valued at what another person is willing to pay. I meant no disrespect and I take none when my customers in business low ball me. I simply thank them and move on.
Anyways, thanks again and I’m looking forward to learning from you guys.

what face book site ? there are a few of them
-
Probably the same one if you offer a part for free to someone you get banned because you didn't put a price on it...(Not me)....Ridiculous.....I thought that was the deal with 250r sites was to help people out....

250r owners for life

Welcome abord! I feel this forum will be a great experience for you. It has been a very drama free place for me to find parts and friends(for the most part). There are a few organized group rides that are planned out through this site. I hope you find what you need here.

So here is kinda what I'm thinking. Because I'm wanting a quad that will not be ridden a lot and i'm not racing, I'm thinking of a *** engine and a PT eliminator pipe. Mostly I want a fresh engine with the chrome head and pipe. Thoughts??
-
Where are you located? You could have a really good builder close by for the motor

Little Rock, AR. I just found a guy on FB, Bubba Ramsey out of Russellville, that does work on 250r's.
-
I would use him before bdt. He has a very good reputation and does nice work
-
Welcome aboard a lot of good dudes here. Bubba Ramsey from BHP is a stand up guy. I’d use him and NOT ***
-
One last thing, I’m not wanting a big bore or 350cc engine. Again just wanted a “minted” look and pics on *** website, coupled with the fact I could pay someone to exchange the engines, seemed like an easy route. I’m an economics major...and my dad told me 100’s of times growing up. “You’d tear up a brass anvil!” Now I’ve never seen one of those but according to my dad, I’d tear it up if given the opportunity.
-
You should be able to get an engine on ebay or HERE that is a good engine and not need to go to ***. You are taking a huge risk with ***. they are extremely expensive and unreliable.
Welcome to the site. We will not steer you wrong.
John
-
You didn’t step on anyone’s nerves here we’re just trying to steer you in a good direction motor wise
-
There’s also Pete at hybrid engineering who did my motor he’ll go through the whole thing and paint it if you wish you can see in my build thread what he did with mine

Yea that’s what I’m wanting. I would like maybe a larger cc like 265-275. Do you have any idea a ballpark of what that would cost? The reason I mentioned bdt was Bc it was basically what I wanted and knew the exact cost. Again, I know very very little about the engines.
-
My motor is a 363 sphynx it was around $3500 if your looking for a 265 or so it would be quite a bit less to build I’m sure
-
Appreciate all of your input. I drove up to see Bubba today at BHP and I’ve decided to let him build my engine. Seemed like a cool guy who was down to earth, didn’t bash any other guys and just showed me his work along with a list of clients. Pretty much a straight shooter and I really liked him.
So I’m going to start taking my engine off and hope to get it delivered to him next week.
-
You won’t be disappointed with bubba he does great work his motors scream my kids R is a 310 is ported by bubba and it holds its own pretty good

Appreciate it. I think we are going with an ESR pipe/silencer too.
-
Glad to hear you liked bubba. It is nice to have the builder close to you. I use Pete with hybrid. It's nice just being able to load stuff up and take it to him
-
Tearing down tonight and shipping the engine off Monday. 4-6 weeks i’ll have it back together with some new additions.
-
Dropped the engine off at BHP for rebuild. So the waiting game begins!
-
Very nice! Bubba is a stand-up guy and very reputable engine builder. 0% chance of you not being happy with your motor.
Keep up the good work and the posts!

I can get the color code when I see him again next week.
Douglas, www.sincoinc.com Local company here in central Ark. I know the owner well and he's done several frames/hubs for others across the country. The true test will be when I get my "gold" swing arm back. He says this is the 3rd one he's done and the pics I saw looked really good. Time will tell.

who did your shock ?
Evan Schmidt with Schmidty Racing.
-
I had my shock polished before I sent it out for a rebuild. did Evan have it polished or did you sand it to race reflections ?
-
Who is doing yours?
Evan has a "chrome show" option that I selected and added the braided line. I also got the stage 3 progressive revalve and the shock piston mod.

Very nice. I think I would think twice about the colored chain. Haven't heard anything good about them. Would hate to see that beautiful bhp engine get hurt
