Title: In desperate need! 250R stator. In hatfield McCoy trails
Post by: TatTooL23 on August 20, 2013, 04:33:05 PM
Hey guys I am staying at a cabin with friends riding the hatfield McCoy trails. One of my friends has an '86 trx250r that has an '86 atc250r motor. We have had problems with it and believe it needs a stator.

Is there anyone out there with a stator that is fairly close?  We could drive and meet someone or pay for next day shipping.

PLEASE let me know. We need this ASAP.

Thanks.

We have traced everything. By passed kill switch. Checked grounds, tested and switched coil. Complete carb check and clean. Fuel flow air filter the whole 9.

Quad starts everytine no prob. But will randomly quit out of nowhere. As if someone hits the kill switch. Will run fine for awhile then just die. But starts right back up everytime.

This might sound crazy, but where the harness plugs into the CDI, sometimes that male pin down in the connector in the CDI box will get loose inside the box & break connection like on & off. Sometimes you can bend the wires of the harness around & pull tye them so as to put a bind on the connector & it will cause the pin to hold connection down inside the CDI.
Another thing, have heard of guys taking a real small screw type C clamp, putting it right in the middle of the CDI box, applying a slight amount of pressure & it would go back to working proper.

In the harness, the black wire with the white stripe, is the main ignition wire coming from the CDI box.

All this is just a get by though until you can buy new parts.

Thats exactly what mine did!! Ran good and cut off. Mine was a short in the wire from the kill switch. (not saying yours is kill switch related but a possible short somewhere)

Sorry to hear the misfortune, definitely one of the best places towards the east coast to ride. I would check the wiring harness for sure, those trails are some rough terrain, big rocks, 200' or more strip mine cliffs. I learned real quick your ride has to be in tip top shape for that place. I thought it was cool having a 50 mile radius to ride. I rode my r to Walmart, also passed a ups truck on the highway. Not often can you do that legally. Good luck getting it figured out.

Ok think it may actually be the coil. Only electrical part that has had inconsistent ohm testing.

Swithed with another coil and it did same thing. So thinking that coil might be bad or on its way too

CDI, can't be tested. Will start and die later. Will start later then die again.
