Title: Airbox Eliminator Airbox
Post by: The Phantom on September 01, 2013, 09:27:25 AM
Ive had some people tell me that eliminating the airbox is not a good idea.  Obviously it depends on where you ride but in my situation and I am sure others we would like the best of both worlds.  Being able to take a ride out in the woods and not worry about a small puddle here or there or a slow small creek crossing with having no airbox would be nice.  Im trying to think of some sort of a lightwieght, nice looking gaurd of some sort that obviously would not restrict any air and keep mainly splash up from the rear tires ect. from hitting the pre-filter.  Maybe have it mounted like a gaurd on a grinder near the front of the filter and cone around it 3/4 of the way or something.  I know that there must be a design that would be beneficial to what Im trying to accomplish.  Im not trying to make it so you can just baja through the deep mudpits, water but still would like to have no airbox but yet be more protected.  Any thoughts guys would be appreciated.

I wish I had pics of it but I took a piece of aluminum and bent it up around my filter and folded the ends down to let it bolt to an existing place on the frame. It worked great as I was having the same problem you mentioned avoiding. It didn't look bad either and easy to remove, just 2 bolts and it was off the machine

to me it sounds like you should just run the airbox without the lid. Really an airbox eliminator is for drag bikes or duners, where no water is involved.
